Saw an article that Dave, the head brewer at Blue Lobster was unexpectedly fired this week. Very disappointing to hear, as I had only experienced and heard great things about their beer. I know he's a member here and was always very active in responding to people and providing info in the Blue Lobster Brewing thread. You could tell that he cared a lot about their products and service. Dave, sorry to hear about this. Hope you're able to continue producing great beers somewhere else very soon.

As for the fate of Blue Lobster beers.....who knows? Time will tell.

I know there's a lot of people who really liked Blue Lobster's beers here, so I just wanted to pass along the info:

Yeah, this is old news now, but that Hampton Patch article was the best source of pertinent info (and Dave on FB.) Sounds like he's made a soft landing, but news to follow.

I have to wonder how many BA's are actually concerned about the fired brewer's lack of employment vs the fact that they won't be able to get his beers.

I wondered if it had but I dug back trough old posts and hadn't seen anything about it. In that case, sorry for the repost.

Based on the vitriol directed at Blue Lobster on Facebook and the general concern on most social media for what was happening with Dave, I think he has received ample support from the beer community and rightfully so. Most people seem to be able to balance wanting his beers and being sensitive about his employment situation.

Seems like he has also hinted that he has different plans in his future anyway. Perhaps the move will work out in his favor anyway as he clearly wanted a bigger role in the ownership end that he wasn't getting at BL. I think he'll land on his feet considering how appreciated most of his beers are.

I personally (selfishly) hope that he lands on his feet nearby, hopefully somewhere else in New Hampshire, but I agree that people haven't lost sight of the fact that in the midst of this whole thing (which still isn't totally clear), a guy lost his job. I've only met Dave once, and I can hardly say that I know him based on that, but it was clear from talking to him that he cared deeply about the beer he brewed and the people he served that beer to. While people are obviously upset that they can't get Dave's beer at Blue Lobster anymore, I think most people are at least as concerned about the way he seems to have been treated and the situation he finds himself in as a result. I don't want to speculate too much on hearsay or speak for anyone else, but I think the most of the concern here speaks to the best of the beer community: a concern not just for the talent or product, but for the person behind it.

No matter how this sugars off, Dave is a great brewer and great person.

Opportunities usually find there way to people of this skill & character.

On the other side of this coin, I will never support Blue Lobster under any circumstance. When they blew off the Vermont Brewers Fest under a lame smoke screen I kind of figured what they were all about.

I hate to dredge this up. But "good news everyone!"

Funding has been approved! Onward!! :grinning:

New life goal: By my 30th birthday I will be producing beer in a brewery I cofounded with good folks. I will have equal stake and handle all brewing as well as creative control over production. With as much heart as I can muster.

Thank you all tremendously for the support!

I never met you, but was a big fan of your Stalkholm and Gold Claw. World class in my opinion. I held a Gold Claw vs Zombie Dust taste-off. You were right there...and better than HF Edward. Cheers!

Great news... for you and for those of us who have loved your beer. Looking forward to hearing more details, but in the meantime congratulations on the funding and best wishes as you work the rest out.

    Congrats Dave,
Maybe someone can open up a new thread on this to keep the focus on the positive.
    Cheers,
    Paul
