Blue Moon Dark Chocolate Bacon Porter

I think I saw a thread about this awhile back, before the site upgrades began, but I cannot remember when exactly. I am glad you posted this though because I forgot about it. I have to say, I don't care what people say about Blue Moon, if this tastes good, I will be happy to try it. Also, Blue Moon tends to be reasonably priced, so if this is a cheaper product that still tastes good, I'm in. Why not! Even if it doesn't turn out to be mind-blowing, how can a beer/bacon/chocolate combo be bad??? I guess we'll see.

I tried a slice of chocolate-covered bacon at the Big E (big fall fair in New England, for you foreigners) and it... wasn't exactly bad. Pork and chocolate don't really go together, and yet they're both so good separately that this could be contract brewed by Foot Locker in a dumpster and I'd still try it.

 

It is probably on the right track. Bluemoon has only made a couple beers that i would turn down... So i have faith and will defiantly try. Anyone know were that keg is???? :} JOKE

 

Blue Moon is doing a voting (I think through facebook) to select it's fall release. It is between the bacon porter, a blackberry tart ale, and a caramel apple spiced ale. Here is a thing that was at my local bar



I tried them all, and the bacon porter does not taste like your traditional Blue Moon products (the other 2 do).

There is very little chocolate to it. It is more of a smokey / roasted malt flavor with a kick of bacon.

 

I'd try anything once. That includes this.

 

So which would you vote for? Its good to hear that it didn't taste like other Blue Moon brews, the thought of Witbier mixed with bacon and chocolate makes me gag a little.

 

I actually voted for the Porter. I am not a bit Witbier guy, so the fact that I could not really tell that is what it was won me over.

However, for a fall release, to me, the Caramel Apple is the only one that makes real sense to me. I think of the Choc-bacon as more of a winter brew and the Blackberry more of a spring beer.

 

A bar here in my neck of the hood is doing a tasting similar to what pimpinmidget attended... I plan on attending if I'm available, I think it's sometime in April.

 

what about the peanut butter honey one? i love peanut butter and honey sandwiches

 

I can't even imagine a bacon beer, heard of them but never had the experience myself. But knowing coors this could be a disaster. But you never know. I'll give it a try if I see it.

I do remember there being a thread a couple months back about it though.

This might be a clusterf*** of truly terrifying, epic proportions. That being said, I will give it a shot, kind of like sleeping with that chick from the bar that had the great body but weird face, but the lights were low and you thought it might be a good time because you could tell she knows her way around the bedroom, and then in the morning you wake up and kind of hate yourself, except this is beer and that could be construed as sexist.

 

either way the next morning could suck whether it be hangover, which is worse when the beer sucks, or an ugly chick.

 

or the herpes.

 

I'm surprisingly on board and want to try this. I got the chocolate bacon at the big e as well and loved it! Now if only someone will brew a donut bacon cheeseburger. Rogue?
