I must have smelled something in the air! Thanks for the quick reply. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get your info? I'm actually heading out the pub/brewery for lunch and I saw that the Dark Hollow and Steel Wheels are on tap along with my favorite seasonal, Summer Haze. Definitely looking forward to the new brews.

Damn you, Mark Zuckerberg! I've managed pretty well to avoid Facebook but if there's exclusive beer info on there, well, you know.

between FB and Twitter, I've found most breweries put their most up-to-date info there first.

can I ask why? it's the quickest, easiest and cheapest way for them to disseminate info.
anyone with the brewery can quickly get this info out at any time from a cell phone. these smallish breweries aren't going to have a in-house webmaster to publish content...

(or is it because you're a Spurs fan  up the Gunners!)

Oh I know, and I see the utility of it. But I'm with seanchai. Managed to avoid becoming a Face or a Twit so far, but it's becoming more and more difficult as content goes to those media. I felt the same way about email in early 90's--lamented the loss of the written word. Now I couldn't do without it. I'll come around I suppose, just have to figure out how to work the damn thing.
    Now get off my lawn!

    Oh now that's just low.
For the record, my beautiful SO is a Gunner and we manage to cohabit with a minimum of rioting. She explains new technologies to me and I do her long division.

I recently signed up for twitter but only follow breweries, local beer stores, and local beer info(dcbeer). I have gotten a lot of good info from brewery releases to whats on tap around town. It has been really helpful. I don't follow any people or even my favorite sports teams so i don't get a bunch of clutter.

I do have a related question to the post. I am probably going to go to Blue Mountain and Devils Backbone next Saturday and spend the night in Charlottesville. I want to eat lunch at one of the breweries and then eat dinner and spend the rest of the evening at the other. Any suggestions on which is more suited for the night session. It looks like Blue Mountain has a outdoor tiki bar so I am leaning towards that at night. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also who has the better food in your opinion? And finally is it worth it to stop at Wolf Hills? Thanks in advance.

I personally enjoy Blue Mountain's vibe a lot more, but both places have better than average food along with really solid beer. Devil's Backbone has a restaurant feel where Blue Mountain is more pub-by. For me coming from Charlottesville, Blue Mountain seems like more of a local hangout with great beer whereas Devil's Backbone has an odd mix of retirees/tourists from nearby Wintergreen Resort along with a smaller minority of beer geeks.

Wild Wolf at this early stage in its existence is a little bit weird. The beers are all OK if a bit muted. The food is pretty good but not up to the standards of the other two breweries. The atmosphere is a bit synthetic; it seems like they put up the building a bit on the cheap with a number of small rooms. To be fair, when I was last there in the spring they were planning an outdoor biergarten that could be really cool, but overall I would say the place hasn't hit its stride yet.

Vist DB for lunch and spend your evening with Blue Mtn. And yes, Wolf is worth a visit.

Thanks for the good info. Had a great Saturday drinking good beer with my brother surrounded by mountains on a beautiful day. I would highley recommend this trip to anyone especially on a nice day. Below are my personal rankings based on beer quality, beer selection, atmosphere and service.

    3. Devils Backbone
    2. Wild Wolf
    1. Blue Mountain

Doubling back to the original post, the website for the Barrel House is now up:

    http://www.bluemountainbarrel.com/

The tasting room at the facility looks to open next month in celebration of breweries newly being able to sell full beers on-site.
