Looks like this brewery has been around for awhile but I haven't heard a thing about them till this week. Their Barrel House series has hit Nova shelves and I must say it's awesome. Does anyone know how limited this all is or if were going to be seeing it as a local staple?

Either way I'm damn pleased to see it arrive and I hope there's plenty more to follow. If you wanna know a spot in Falls Church (Baily's Crossroads) to find it send me a BM. Not trying to hype I'm just genuinely excited.

No specific knowledge, but I think it looks like you'll be seeing more of their beers:

I live really close to blue mountain and I go there a ton. Really good beer. Service and food is mediocre but of course thats not why I go. It would be well worth a trip down from falls church. Their are about 6 breweries within about 25 miles of Charlottesville. Most of them are pretty mediocre (Starr Hill, Devils Backbone, Wildwolf, South street), But Blue Mountain has some nice stuff. Taylor Smack the head brewer is a Siebel Grad and it shows unlike some of the other guys. Beers to keep an eye out for: Uber Pils, Evan Altmighty, Blue Reserve, Lights out, Oktoberfest and wee heavy. Just my personal favorites. Cheers man.

Blue Mountain has been flying under the radar for a while. I'm in Southeast Virginia and we just started getting their stuff a couple months ago, but the supply of their offerings has been plentiful thus far. They make some good stuff.

I have heard that Wolf Hills has some good stuff thats down near Bristol no? Are you familiar with New river brewing Co.? I read a story about the brewer who started that company, apparently he passed away at a young age. Apprently Lost Rhino bought the rights to his signature beer aptly named new river pale ale. Hear its good stuff.

Sipping on a dark hollow this eve and its better than the last one I had. Still a little thin for a BA stout (KBS and EvHo, BCBS being my gold standard)

I talked to the brewer about Dark Hollow last night and I noted that it was not the same beer I remembered from a few years ago. He said that there was a lot of variation in the recipe in previous years but that they are standardizing it around the current recipe. The early releases were much bigger, if I remember correctly, and I would agree that the current formulation is a lighter beer that the others you mentioned.

correct. they have been absolutely flooding the market since they opened the new Barrel House, but the product isn't what it used to be, not to mention i've heard- but not experienced- that there were some issues with off-flavors. this just goes for the Barrel House, though, as it's essentially a different brewery than the regular Blue Mountain.

Wolf Hills- not to be confused with Wild Wolf- is making some excellent beer, definitely grab their imperial stout if you ever get a chance.

Just had a discussion with some friends about this.
Have got my hands on Dark Hollow the last few years/releases and loved it, the barrel house version isn't bad by any means but imo not nearly as good as the BM brewery older version.

I was lucky enough I happen upon a Blue Mountain brewery event at my local growler spot about a week and a half ago. I had never heard of this Virginia brewery before, but was really floored by my experience. I had two of their barrel aged options and both were impressive. I later met the brewer and learned he had worked at Goose Island in the early 2000's and gleaned a lot of his barrel aging technique from the old dog. Later on a rep gave me some bottle openers and a t-shirt and invited me and my excitement about their brewery, to contact them about helping out with events in the future. They are just starting to distribute in NYC and I hope their expansion continues. Also recently bought a sixer of the Full Nelson Pale Ale in cans and they have been delicious. This is just another beer lover's sort of brewery and I hope them nothing but the best!

    Cheers!

The shop where I work had a very similar event earlier this week, though I lamentably missed it. We got a bunch of Barrel-House beers. I'm particularly stoked about having a year round Barrel aged stout that isn't Dragons Milk in stock and the price is definitely right. I'm not crazy about Full Nelson, but I have plenty of other beers to try. I think Local Species is up to bat...

Yeah I tried Dark Hallow and Local Species at the event and both were quite good. Brewer mentioned bottles making it up to NYC might be in the $12-15 range which is a bit hard to pull the trigger on, but I probably will to support a great upstart brewery.

Its cool to see BMB getting some out of state love. They are one of (if not our #1) favorite breweries here in VA. If you are ever visiting be sure and check out their brewpub in Nelson County. You already know the beer is tasty, but their food is also very good, and the vistas from the outdoor dining area can't be beat.

Yeah, I experienced many off flavor in the first batch. I actually poured all this down the drain. I shared with many friends in SC, and all had the same opinion. It just tasted like chemicals, which could have been due to water treatment issues. I hope they have corrected that by now. Dark Hollow was another story. It was a completely different beer. I am sad they want the new thinner version to be the standard now. I think that is a bad decision and I will not be buying that beer again.

Have heard similar sentiments from other dark hollow lovers. It seems dissapointment often comes along with expansion. I hope they bring back the old style even though i am not a big fan of the dark hollow. Has anyone tried the steel wheels esb? It is the only one i haven't tried and they haven't had it on tap yet as far as i know.

Full Nelson Pale Ale is a wonderful beer. not a part of the Barrel House lineup, so i'm not sure how/if it will be distributed in NC, but I was able to get my hands on a case of cans and I can't put them down.

Vying for the best representation of the style in circulation. Nothing fancy, just one of the best standard pale ales you will ever try.

Full Nelson is the only one of their canned beers that is being distributed in NC, for now. I picked up a six pack of it at the tasting I attended.
