So I was at a beer festival yesterday and this was easily the highlight of the day for me. I get blue point where I'm from in MD but I've never seen this. Does anyone know how rare this is or how it distributes? I'd love to get my hands on a couple bottles. Thanks guys!
i got a bottle of it as an extra in a trade, and i was really looking forward to opening it, this makes me just a bit more excited!
Yes, it's the Long Island 'Dark Lord'. I wish, it's readily available here and very good. Very light hint of cherry in it. Doesn't taste like cough syrup. About $8.99 a bottle.
I live in New York but only saw this beer once before. It was at the Split Thy Skull Festival at Mugs Alehouse in Brooklyn.
Not sure where in Maryland you live but State Line Liquors in Elkton, Md. has it sitting on the shelves.
..literally left state line about a half hour ago with two bottles. Well played lol. Its actually two hours away from my home but I stopped by on my way back from PA. First time at state line. I left happy.
My experience is that this beer is a complete different beer on draught and in bottle. I received a bottle from my reg TP and opened it up for the national championship this year. My buddy warned me its different in bottle bit draught is pretty tasty. I opened it and couldn't drink much. It tasted like cherry cough medicine. Then about a month later local Bar had it on draught and i got it again and it was incredible. Not sure what the deal is with my bottle. Maybe there was some serious variance or something but I'd seek it out on draught...bottle I'd pass every time. Just my .02
I remember when this was brewery only. I find their more limited releases like this are better than the core line.
Its not crazy rare, but not made year round. My local just ran through a round of it on tap. Wasnt their first time with it and I dont imagine it will be their last. Its a solid reasonably priced Imperial.
Thanks for the info. This beer is all over the shelves where I'm at in Michigan, but I've never been a big fan of Blue Point (I don't DISlike their beers, just find them bland generally) so I haven't tried it. Will be sure to pick up a bottle next time I'm out.
Could not agree more. Had it on draft at a beer store tasting last year and immediately bought a growler. It was fantastic, great balanced cherry flavor without being overwhelming. When I saw it in bottles earlier this year I bought one and it was completely different. No cherry, no body, no nothing...5-foot nothin, 100 and nothin (sorry that was Rudy)
