From their newsletter, Blue Stallion is opening Wed. Anybody going? I think I'll try and show up. Let me know if you want to meet. "Wednesday July 17th, 2013 at 6:30pm These are the beer styles we will have on tap for the momentous occasion: German Pilsner Munich Dunkel Smoked Lager Scottish 70 Schilling Hefeweizen"
I'm anxious as hell to get out there and to try their stuff. But there's no way I'm going to any new business on their opening day. I'll let the dust settle for a bit and give them a shot next week; after, hopefully they have their feet under them somewhat. But I would love to hear everyone's thoughts about the beers...
Normally, I wouldn't do an opening day either, and I hate crowds....but I thought it would be interesting to see what happens. And the place was packed. The lines were long for a beer. And everyone still looked happy. I take that as a sign that Lexington will come out for new beer eagerly and will be patient on the first night. Blue Stallion did a nice job renovating the building. A tall but beautiful bar. The beers are not the styles I normally drink, but I thought they were all solid. Of course, we want to give them time to settle in.
You guys are a bunch of old gramps! Remind me to ask if you got any Werthers Original next time I see ya Jeff. Looks like the Lexington and Louisville beer rivalry is heating up.
Checked it out today, a much more manageable crowd. The venue is beautiful, and the bar is huge, literally. Makes you feel like a midget. I tried all six of their beers and enjoyed them all. The dunkel was a little tame, but the hefeweizen was surprisingly full flavored for such a low ABV. I was excited to for the wee heavy but it was a bit too mediciney for my liking. I think my favorite so far was the smoked lager, it was kind of baconey but still pretty light.
Definitely looking forward to going here soon. I've been following their Facebook updates for a while and am glad to see plans come to fruition. I may stop in there next week sometime. Interesting choice of beer styles for opening.
I loved it, strange mix between Country Boy and West Sixth. The smoked lager was really good and they have six guest taps so if you are not inclined to drink their stuff you can get someone else's. Dragons Milk for 5 bucks on a 12 ounce pour is pretty nice.
I'll be hitting this up soon. Took a week off from drinking after my Fourth of July Blowout Festivities and a week on Sanibel Island. My "blue period" is officially over and I can venture forth once again. My wife's best friend is lifelong friends with a couple of the brewers, so the excitement has been brewing in our circle for a while.
