Do you stop drinking craft beer once you get to a certain point of intoxication?

I see posted on here often that people reach for a cheap adjunct lager when they're wasted. Though I've certainly been drunk enough, I haven't been too drunk to not enjoy a decent beer. Granted, I'm not opening up my latest Abyss variant when very intoxicated, but I'm certainly still enjoying standard craft brews like founders porter, Sam Adams, Hoegaarden, Schlafly coffee stout, Sierra Nevada, the list goes on. Even when really drunk, I can taste what I don't like about BMC products and what I do like about craft products, though I understand some people cannot.

I'm curious how many people reach for a BMC (or whatever cheaper option) type product instead of craft beers when they are drunk. Please elaborate on your answers in the comments. I did not include a sometimes option, because I'm interested in what people generally do overall.

I answer no because of the question's conceit. I do not switch to BMC beer.

I *DO* stop drinking once I get to a certain point of intoxication, but it's a full stop after downing my 10th bomber of Yellow Rose. :stuck_out_tongue:

The more I drink the more I enjoy the flavors of quality beer.

If I'm really drunk, I usually just stop drinking beer.

But if I'm only kinda drunk and want to keep drinking, I'll reach for a craft beer as long as it's not expensive or hard to get. I like to have a sixer or two of shelf beers I like on hand for this occasion. I try to start my drinking sessions with the rarest/most expensive beer and move downward.

To quote The Iceman, Albert Collins, "I ain't drunk, I'm just drinking".

Yeah, no, it's very rare I drink a BMC anything. Literally the only time I will, is out at a bar (like seeing a band or something) and a friend just buys a crap beer. I'm not enough of an asshole to not drink that beer, in that situation. When i go back for a visit, I certainly drink some Genny's and Yuenglings (and, maybe, a couple Labatt blues) for nostalgia.

Other than those situations, crap beer is crappy, and I ain't drinking it.

I voted "yes" simply because I stop drinking anything when I've hit my wall. The hardest part about growing up has been dealing with hangovers... that shit sucks as you get older!

I rarely get really drunk. I prefer to just stop outright. If I want to tick a BMC I will drink it first. I like to taste things.

I usually just slow down, or stop. But I do admit that once in a blue moon where I fully intend on getting drunk, I will crush BMCs rather than sip on 8+ abv beers all night.

If I'm out with my friends or family, I eventually will switch out, since those beers will be at my disposal - for very cheap I might add!

However if I'm home after my late shift on Friday, hell no there's no switchin'!

I do enjoy a couple Black Labels or High Life's after I feel the fuzzy warm feeling taking effect.

    Love it!

Im partial to the Peter Griffin paraphrase:

"I'm not drunk, I'm just tired from drinking all day."

That said...if I have some Miller Lite at my disposal, I will consume it regardless. There is something inviting about 4% beers after drinking 13% BA beers.

I buy singles a lot instead of six packs so I'll drink 6-7 different ABV range beers. Get drunk and then drink miller lite if there's a social thing so I don't get hammered and fall down my stairs with my good shit.

One of the reasons I tend not to have a steady supply of easy-drinking-lower-ABV or cheaper/BMC beers in the fridge is they often turn into beers that I reach for unnecessarily when I've already my fill. By that point they don't add to the experience and I'm better off drinking water. Just me being a lightweight. Nothing to see here; everyone carry on.

Which begs the question : Why in the hell would anyone reach for any beer if there already drunk? This is an adult forum, I assume 18 year old power drinkers who drink till they puke don't use this site. Just a stupid scenario, reach for a glass of water.

    Hard question to answer.

I will say one thing, though, when you have a family there is no such time as privacy. I certainly don't drink everyday, but I drink more often than I don't, just a fact. My day at work ends later than the majority of you, so once I'm home and I've eaten dinner, my kids are asleep and my wife is dead tired herself.

So, my answer is...if I feel I'm past the point of enjoying one of the better beers in my house, and I still want to have a beer or two watching tv or playing around on the Net, I'll usually "waste" the beers I generally care the least about. They're still usually pretty good still (the "shittiest" beer in my house is usually Pabst, some kind of German pils or an IPA of some sort that's kinda whatever to me) but I'm certainly not gonna pop open a KBS or that Parabola I've been saving if I've drank 4 or 5 good ones already.

Nope. I'll just stop drinking if I get to a point I don't wish to go beyond.

Craft beers are much more filling as well as being higher in ABV than the macros, so that being said, after about 4-5, I'm usually a combination of being "well on my way" or just full, so I'll stop.

I also try to drink some water between my craft beers to keep the buzziness at bay and to keep the palate clear, as I move from one beer to the next. Moreover, it keeps the wife happy to see my not drinking too fast.

To get to the question - no, I usually don't switch to a BMC (whatever that means, but I can tell from the context what it is) because if I just have a Coors Light in the fridge, I'll just stop and drink water....
