    Prosit! Zum Hofbräu Maibock!

As good as it ever was... even after being bottled on the first day of Winter last year.

By the way... still tasting so spot-on, to-style delicious. I still have some stash left, but I'm trying to keep from depleting it too fast!

This is easily my favorite maibock taste like a higher Abv Marzen. I was luckily enough to get a 4 pack of ayinger maibock this year but I found it a touch to sweet.

How does this compare to Ayinger his year...Ayinger is usually one of my favorites but seemed thinner and drier on the finish than usually lacking the bready malts I seemed to remember (my impression from the past could be right or wrong but I thought it was a bit meatier for a lack of a better description...)

Isn't this the first year Ayinger has been available? Maybe just bottled.

Either way, HB Maibock has always been bigger and bolder than any other Maibock I've ever had -- someone called it a cross between a Märzen and a Maibock and that's a good comparison.

I agree with you on the Ayinger, though -- it just seemed too dry and alcohol hot to me. Pretty sure I gave a report somewhere earlier in this thread.

You could be right on Ayinger...I just checked and have not reviewed it...maybe I was thinking Hoffbrau...either way we are on the same page with Ayinger...Got 7 more left and looking forward to those but yeah not what I was expecting

I was in Chicago last week, and the Map Room had Schloss maibock, which I believe is a collaboration with Schilling Beer Co. in New Hampshire?

Tragically I did not get a picture, but it was excellent: rich golden malty goodness. I would say possibly my new favorite maibock of the season, although I'd want to try it again before getting too carried away. Not sure of distribution, or if it's bottled at all.

On a side note, is there a Chicago bar with better beer selection than the Map Room? It's right up my alley (lots of Germans and Belgians, only one hazy when I was there).

It's bottled (500 milliliter) and distributed...I found it at a Total Wine here in the Twin Cities.

Love a good bock and appreciate everything I'm seeing in this thread. I'm saddened to report, however, that the pint of Bock I had on tap at Narragansett Brewery last week was not good at all. It was so sweat. I know that a 7% abv beer is one that can easily be sweet, but I didn't expect it to be this sweet. It was not for me. I couldn't finish it. Sucks. It is extremely rare to find a bock on tap in my area.

The Map Room tap list shows Schloss Eggenberg as the only Maibock -- is this the beer you had?

I have never been to this brewery but looking at their beers, I can see why the collab with Schloss was so good

I used to love the 6 packs of 16 oz 'Gansett Bocks for $9.99, it was always a little sweet, but definitely still good. Too bad that has seemed to change. I haven't seen them in many years though. Or any other bocks for that matter, unfortunately

I remember really loving the 'Gansett Bocks that were in the green cans like 10 years ago or so. I think that was a different recipe, as that one was 6.5% abv. (according to the article from 2012 pasted below) and the current version is 7%.

I recently enjoyed both Hofbrauhaus Hofbräu Maibock (Urbock) and Half Acre's Spring Bock. I'm just realizing now that Hofbrau's is classified as a Maibock and Half Acre's is a Bock. Both were very good; personally, I preferred Half Acre's Spring Bock. I would recommend it if you can find it.

I'd rate the Hopleaf and the Beer Temple as slightly better. Just one alcoholic's opinion.

I'm drinking a 32 oz can of Earth Rider Navigator Doppelbock now. Bought at the Cedar lounge months ago. Canned March 29. 2023. it's tasting good, some of the flavors have faded. What's left is dark fruit, hint of plum and red wine, with some spice on the finish. Smooth as a hell. Seems less sweet that when it was fresher. The batch maybe 6 to 7 months old?

Nice detective work, yeah, that one! I vaguely remember 12 packs 12 oz cans for ridiculously cheap too. Or maybe I’m dreaming

Had a tall boy 24oz Shiner the other day for lunch. Not a great beer but it was a pleasant break from lagers.
