Gonna be in Norton to watch the PGA on Sat. and am gonna stop by Bog Iron. Any must try's I should be on the lookout for? Does it typically get super crowded? I see they don't serve food, any nearby suggestions to pick something up and bring to the taproom? Thanks in advance.
Wendells, which is across the street, has great wings. Bog Iron's beer isnt outstanding when compared to the other NE breweries. That said, I do find their beer to be solid. Stinger is their flagship IPA which is made with honey. Some people love it but I prefer Middle Child which is a double IPA that has more citrus elements than the Stinger. Joe, Dunkel and Campout Mild are all great. The taproom does get crowded but if you are looking for fresh beer I would defninitely check it out. Cheers!
I grew up in Norton - Wendells across the street is worth a try for sure. 3.5 is their house sauce, it's delicious. They're cash only and the service sucks but the wings keep people coming back. I tell everyone to gone boneless. As for the Bog, they usually have a really solid lineup on tap from classic styles to IPAs. Right now they have a barrel aged berliner called Viskey Sour and a porter aged in cab sauvignon barrels called Frank from Akron, both are tasty. They also just rejiggered their last batch of Jump Back to be much hazier. Enjoy!
Solid brewery. Nothing to knock your socks off, but definitely average++. I'll see you on Sat at golf.
They just dropped their 4th anniversary beer... Four Down, a blend of RIS aged in rum and bourbon barrels. Pretty damn tasty for their first BA stout!
Having been thoroughly unimpressed the one time I stopped in (maybe 9 months ago?) I began getting excited reading your first sentence. And then the last few words made me think twice about heading down to try it. How would you rate this versus some of the other local BA stouts like CBC YouEnjoyMyStout or NS Darkling?
I've never had Darkling, but I'd say it's similar to YEMS. It's not Bourbon County but I was very impressed with it, happy I have a few more bottles!
