To be honest, I've never had a boiler maker. But, unless it was a very cheap whiskey and avery meh beer, I could never see wasting a good bourbon/scotch and a gopd craft beer on a combo such as this. There are some sins that I won't partake in. Good evening to ya'll.

I liked Heaven Hill or Jim Beam and a PBR `maker in my youth. Not so much any more.

If you are gonna drop it in the beer then jameson and guinness. If you are going to drink the whiskey then chase it with beer, I prefer buffalo trace or pappy and Trumer pils.

I would think the "d-bag" would've have order the "Irish Car Bomb", because only a true d-bag uses that term.

Hello folks, I was wondering what you all like to pair your beer with. I read that a boilermaker is followed by a whiskey shot but what do you all like as a chaser?. Been wanting to try this but I am not sure what type and brand of hard liquor to buy. Any suggestions? Thanks.

In some areas, some years ago, you would put a shot of rye whiskey in a shot glass, drop it gently into your full mug of beer, drink down the beer and follow it with another shot of rye.

Its usually either a shot of whiskey with a beer chaser or a shot of whiskey dumped into a beer. Generally people who drink these are not too specific about what they are drinking. If you are dumping it into a beer any rail whiskey will do. If you are drinking a whiskey with a beer chaser, Wild Turkey might be a nice place to start.

I am partial to bourbon. Jim Beam Black is great, especially for the money. I also like Willett, Four Rose's Small Batch, and Jefferson.

I just remembered I did this once with sake and Sapporo but it was called something different. I guess it depends what you are bombing or chasing your beer with that gives it's name. Does anyone pair their beer with any other type of hard liquor?

Boilermakers were generally whatever cheap whiskey & whatever yellow beer a bar served. Usually a blue-collar thing; think steel mill workers, coal miners, loggers, farmers, etc. Go back in time to when the U.S. had a strong manufacturing industry, go to any factory town, go to the neighborhood bar closest to the factory gate, and see what those dudes were drinking.

I dumped a shot of Jim beam in my victory storm king a few months back as a night cap. They did not compliment each other very well.

I love beer and I love whiskey. At times, I will even enjoy them both in the same drinking session.

That said, drinks like boilermakers are designed to do only one thing - f' you up. I have no problem with getting drunk on occasion but it is not the best way to enjoy the quality and flavor of either beer or whiskey.

Shots of flavored liquors and the right type of beer can be awesome. Chambord and stout is one I've had quite a few times. I'd bet midori and a tropical ipa would be good too

    Historically, as per Wiki

A boilermaker can refer to two types of beer cocktail. In American terminology, the drink consists of a glass of beer and a shot of whiskey.[1] The beer is either served as a chaser or mixed with the whiskey. When the beer is served as a chaser, the drink is often called simply a shot and a beer.

In the United Kingdom, the term boilermaker refers to a half pint of draught mild mixed with a half pint of bottled brown ale.[2] The use of the term in British pubs can be traced back to about 1920

I love to take an imperial stout (usually one I brewed) and pour an ounce of bulleit bourbon into the glass with it.

I was told the term "boilermaker" only refers to lowering the full shot glass into the beer. The other iterations of beer & whiskey are known as "beer & blast." That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Also, an old Navy vet once told me:
    "Beer & whiskey, very risky
    Whiskey & beer, never fear."
