This might be "old school" ,but a beer and a shot of whiskey drank fast. Pound down the shot and chase it with a cold beer. This does not require much -- A mass produced AAL and a whiskey . You may want to ask your father and grandfather what constituted a boiler maker . Many used to drink these afterwork at a neighborhood bar.

Yea. It's the two quintessential Chicago beverages. Possibly the worst combination imaginable.

Although, haven't lived in Chicago for a while, not sure if Old Style even exists anymore. Nothing says Chicago like Old Style in the Wrigley bleachers.

All my local bars have Pabst on tap, but I am afraid of ordering this beer after drinking the cans. I'd rather opt for Yeungling or Smithwicks.

We still have Old Style. Still tastes like crap . But kudos on the very Chicago boilermaker.

Old Style is still there, but Budweiser is now the official beer sponsor of the Cubs.

Old Style and Old Style Light are still available here.Jewel and Binny's have it on their shelves. They have a Chicago Fire Dept. can. It's white can with red and black printing.Old Style is not the official beer of Cubs now.

If the tall dapper pils is first then a small sweet bourbon is foremost. The idea is "first and foremost." (which is also a pun)

Yikes. The above post about Jim Beam and PBR almost made me gag. I survived two years of Animal House type frat stuff, drinking, and remember many next day regrets. Bourbon and beer are not really a good mix. These days, I'll take a sip of Talisker Single Malt....and then maybe go back to beer.

My local has a "beer + shot" menu, of which I am a big fan.

We called 'em Sake Bombs in college. You'd put two chopsticks across the top of a pint of Sapporo and rest a shot of Sake on top. Then you'd bang the table with your hands chanting "sake, sake, sake" until the shot dropped into the glass and then you'd yell "bomb" and chug the pint. We were idiots in college. And often found ourselves getting kicked out of sushi restaurants in Boston.
