I am doing my big Eastward camping trip very soon and hope to reach Boise area on the third day. What are the good breweries I should look for? Any good taphouses? I spotted a few planning on Google Map. But very oddly (for an Oregonian) not much in the way of campground. I would be grateful of some tips. I don't like camping in spruced up private campgrounds..KOA is OK but already seen the snobby gits have no tent spaces near Boise.
My recommendations as a non-local: Western Collective and Bert's in Garden City The Handlebar and Bittercreek Alehouse for beer bars downtown. Barbarian, Boise Brewing, Mother Earth, and Payette for downtown-ish brewereies
Barbarian and Lost Grove have always been my favorite Boise breweries. I'm no help on your camping question .
Would second Bittercreek. Always a must for the wife and I when we visit. Very solid taplist and the food there is decent as well.
No shortage of good beer in ID, but for me no visit to the state is complete without taking advantage of their distro by scooping up some Snake River Zonker Stout.
Setting off tomorrow hopefully. Still no good options for camping near Boise. Themis surprised me. See what happens. Just saw Badger Creek..up 21. Looks good. But my Recreation app is playing up
Ah gave up staying in a cheap motel.15 minutes' walk from Bittercreek. Boise is in no way like Oregon.
***IF PEOPLE READ THIS AND WANT INFORMATION QUICKLY ABOUT BOISE, PLEASE MESSAGE ME DIRECTLY AND ALERT ME TO NEW THREADS*** Sorry @Reidrover I completely missed this. For future folks, not much in the way of camping anywhere near anything in Boise really. Breweries I think are currently the best: -Bert's - making really great lower abv lagers and traditional ales. -Western Collective is doing great work, but has lowered out put a bunch recently. -Boise Brewing - good catalog of standard brews. -Lost Grove is probably the most "forward looking" -Barbarian - many people like them, but I am not a fan. I am sorta over Lucky Charm IPA's, Diabeetus stouts, and snowcone sours. Beer bars are as mentioned above: -Bittercreek is generally the best. -Handlebar is very solid.
Quick check of Recreation.gov says Grayback is the closest campground—FCFS but some sites are available.
I know that this is way late and no longer helpful to you but there is (was?) a beautiful and reasonably priced private RV park in Mountain Home. Closest campground to Boise that I’ve stayed in is Farewell Bend State Recreation Area in Huntington, OR. In my experience, Idaho and Washington have the best campgrounds in the states. Hope you had a great trip!
