Ok I am able to get a bottle of this for $25..... I see it has been rated a 91 so far and the reviews seems a all over the place. But at 91 I am going to assume this is good stuff. But is it $25 good stuff?

Is this the going rate for this (in MI?) Normally anything over $15 a bottle I cringe at buying.... But hey its founders and I have never disliked a brew they have made. Have not paid $25 either for a brew by them.....

    cheers,
    John

In my opinion it is nowhere close to 25$ good. In fact I wouldn't pay 5$ for it after having tried it. It seems to be a polarizing brew though, so it depends on your preference. Are you a big fan of Devil Dancer?

It's worth it if you like hoppy Barleywines. As for the price, I paid about $25.50 per bottle to buy it straight from Founders. For comparison CBS was only $18 last year and that's a better beer in my opinion. I guess all craft beer prices are rising quickly though.

thanks for the input. homebrew: to be honest with you, i tried the 2012 devil dancer and i actually enjoyed it. i will give any style of beer a try, but i enjoy all things stout and ipa/dipa. so if this is a hoppy barleywine, i might very well enjoy it. but i am having a hard time wraping my head around the price given the amount of other great beers that could be bought for the money.... don't mind dropping the coin if it is an outstanding brew and going to be a great experience enjoying it.... however despite the 91 rating its just some of the feedback being left.

that said, i do now that everyone has what they feel is "the right price" or their own prefered style. so only one way to find out and it looks like im gona be short $25........

I don't see where people are comparing this to Devil Dancer, tastes nothing like it to me. It tastes like a sweeter American barleywine with a solid amount of oak and bourbon. I easily paid $23 a bottle for this and would do it agian in a heartbeat. Definitely a polarizing beer, but 91 with an rAvg of 4.13 at 51 reviews is a pretty solid number for a reason...

I'm in agreement here, so I won't repeat his points, but a beer like this is worth buying a bottle, even if for $25, just to taste it and see what YOU taste...Probably won't see this beer again in a bottle, and if we do it won't be for a very long time, and probably called something else. Might as well give it shot just to say you had it, and further more, have an opinion on it.

It was worth a try for $7 a small pour at the Palate. It was well made, the alcohol was there but in the background. Hops were enough to balance the malt a little but the malt was in the forefront. It was a beer that I called well made, but not one that I want to have again soon.

In chicago, we buy bottles just to say we've tried em and then have a bad opinion of them.

Joking aside, like all Barleywines I always buy two bottles. One to have fresh and one to age. Most barleywines turn to gold in a year or two, after those hops fade and smooth out. I have a feeling this beer will be killer in 2 years. But affording two 25 buck bottles is rough, you got a pal you could split the burden with? Otherwise, try tracking me down at Dark Lord, KBS, 4 ELF, or anything else in 2015, I'll give ya a pour. (granted we survive the zombie apocalypse, fiscal cliff, mayan apocalypse, WW-III, and the upcoming Gleep-Gorp Invasion of 2014)

I agree completely (though I've only had it on tap -- I've saved my bottles so far). I don't understand any of the disappointment, but different palettes (of flavor) for different palates, I guess.

I'm glad someone is finally taking those damn Gleep-Gorps seriously. I've been screaming about them for years .

Oh, and I loved Bolt Cutter personally, and I'm normally not a fan of Barleywines (trying to get into it). Anyway, I picked up an extra for the price you quoted and didn't feel bad about it at all.
