I saw GI Sofie today. Bomber was $7.99 (22oz) and a 6 pack was )10.99. WHY is the bomber so much more per ounce. I noticed this with many other beers as well. I would think the bomber should be less as there is less glass involved I think and no 4 pack cardboard. You get about double the beer for $3 when buying a 4 pack and you do not have to drink 22 oz if you do not want to. I don't get it.

    Enjoy

because people will pay it. if you don't like it, write to breweries, complain to store owners, and most importantly, vote with your dollar.

The 6 pack is like buying at Sams Club and you get a discount for buying in bulk.

Bombers have historically been a bad value. As Pahn said, speak with your wallet. Just sucks when certain beers are only available in that format.

This topic has been beaten to death, but yeah I agree the price per ounce variations between bottle sizes is ridiculous. Get this, one of my stores near me has Boulevard Smokestack series 750's at $9.99 sitting right next to the 4-packs at $10.99.

ya that is when it really sucks but I have begun to realize that if a beer is in bomber only you are bound to find one in 4/6 pack format of the same style that is just as good.

Bombers are always more but you can't complain about it if the brewer also puts it in a 4 or 6 pack at a lower price.

Both 4-packs and sixers are fine and preferred. However, really wish the market wouldn't be moving towards bombers, they just as the OP noted aren't economical. Drinking craft beer seems to come in waves. I've really fallen in love with a number of rare / limited beers. However, I'm now trying to pull back and find the jems that aren't limited but of still high quality, basically the un-hyped local crafts that still offer great bang for the buck. Bombers just don't offer that option.

I've gotten frustrated with this recently once I started doing the math. This horribly shitty $3.99 bomber I got thinking "Oh, it's cheap, why not" (Minhas/Rhinelander Imperial Jack) comes out to $13.xx a 6-pack. Yes it's less of an investment so less of a risk. But it's equally frustrating for beers I *do* like. It's hard justify a $13 bomber of Dreadnaught very often when you can get a good six-pack or a great four-pack for the same price usually.

And the price goes up even more when you go to even larger bottles like magnums. I never really did understand that. I guess something like that might need special bottling equipment, but still.

Must have been a 4 pack. Sofie doesn't come in a 6 pack. Still a lot more per ounce as bombers always are.

I know that bombers are a rip off, but sometimes I don't have the $13 bucks to spend on a 4 pack, but I do have the $8 to spend on a bomber. When you're operating with a weekly allotment of pocket money, it can be difficult to buy beer based exclusively on what makes the most economical sense, especially when you are interested in trying new brews.

You almost always get a better price when you buy a larger quantity. It is more beneficial for a business to more quantity and they tend to offer you more of an incentive to buy in quantity. Breweries move more product selling a six pack vs a bomber, you pay a "convenience fee" for the opportunity to buy a smaller quantity. Bomber also allow breweries to spread out a limited release or small batch more.

By the way, if you buy a case it tends to make a six pack look like a rip off. By a keg and that may make the case look pricey. I do not know why all you guys are complaining about bomber prices when you are getting ripped off on sixers every day.
