Whoops! I had no idea. Go figure. Either way, it's legit and dry as a bone.

Grabbed some Great Lakes Wright Pils on the way home today -- very, very dry -- and a rather odd "Pilsner" as the GL web site lists Harrington 2 row as a base and Wheat for body and head retention -- no Pils malt at all.

Nonetheless, good noble hops, clean flavor, and a "bone-dry" finish.

    Trumer

Trumer is originally from Austria, but they built a brewery in CA to serve the U.S. It's a great Pilsner with that terrific bready malt character, but those damn green bottles!

There's a store near me that keeps 6 packs on the top shelf of the craft beer section -- about 6 inches from the spot lighting for the shelves. Next time I see the manager I'm going to tell him I'd buy it more often, but I know it's going to be skunked.

The US brewery actually seems to be more of a joint venture between Trumer and Gambrinus (owner of BridgePort and Spoetzl, formerly owned the now-defunct Pete's and ex-Corona Importer for the eastern US).

    Gambrinus' own website states:

2004–Gambrinus builds Trumer Brauerei Brewery Berkeley in Berkeley, California and begins brewing Trumer Pils.

Yeah, I knew this, but since they've found a way to brew real eastern European Pils in the US, I thought I'd dwell more on the actual brewers than the owners/importers -- a case of the ownership not actually screwing up the beer -- in my opinion anyway, had a Beck's lately?

Now, if they'd only drop the green bottles!

Oh, I knew you knew it  Thought maybe some other people* might read the thread and wanna know, too, since it is an interesting situation- more complicated than the normal "brewed under license" deal.

    * (Well, those in the minority, not driven away by "Pils" being in the subject line).

I thought we decided once that was "Central" Europe?

I bought one (my first in decades) when I first saw that true 24 oz. "tall boy" from St. Louis- just out of curiosity. Tasted like the Beck's (non-light struck version) I remember - just as bland, at least. I wonder if A-B'll go with the "light stable" hop extract for the domestic version. Or will a non-skunked bottle of Beck's really turn off the loyal drinkers?

"Life's too short to buy beer (especially green bottled beer!) by the six-pack.
If it's good enough to drink, it's good enough to buy by the case."

Sorry, just responding to the "quoting" practice -- looked directed.

    So true.

Eh -- can't keep up with United Nations edits -- besides, I think the Czech Republic would consider itself "Eastern."

Dunno, one of the last, pre-A-B Beck's I had (un-skunked, BTW) still had some good Pils malt character. Not so much in the post-A-B bottle.

One: it's not as easy to find some of the specialty (trying to cover a lot of bases there) beers in full cases around here, especially where they'd be priced economically. Two: I usually can't commit to a whole case of beer at a time, I like a choice of variety on my shelf.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Had no idea there would be these many responses. After Round One I stopped looking and only came back a week later to re-check. This list will keep any bone-dry pils lover busy for weeks.
