I was cleaning an empty corny last night and when I moved the keg from my temperature controlled freezer, I apparently removed the temperature probe. This morning, the 5 bottles of commercial brew that I was keeping cool were frozen solid. All had expanded enough to compromise the crown. Damages include three bottles of Summit Another IPA, one bottle of NB Hoppy Bock, and one bottle of NG Strawberry Rhubarb sour fruit beer. Could have worse. No homebrew was damaged.

Also, dry yeast that I was planning to brew with this week were in there. Still viable?

I think your dry yeast will be fine.

I mistakenly forgot to make sure the temperature probe was in one of my chest freezers four times now throughout the years. Damages have included:

    1. A batch of homebrewed hefeweizen getting heated to about 175F or more. Most of the bottles steamed and exploded. The few that made it were caramalized / had loads of malliard reactions

    2. 2x 6.5 gallon carboys of belgian wit freezing solid for days. Wit slushy poured out of the tops / knocked the airlocks out. Water and beer completed separated (but both were frozen) and the beer sucked when I thawed it out and sampled it so I drain poured it.

    3. 4x bottles of Back Acre Beer Maker Golden Sour + about 6x bombers of Lawson's Finest Liquids + about 4x bottles of Logsdon Seizon Bretta froze, popped caps/corks, and slushed right out of the bottles.

    4. 2x 6.5 gallon carboys of Session Porter freezing (barely) less than 3 days into primary fermentation.

My father in law did it once while he was working on our electrical... Had a corny of root beer push through the gaskets, and stretch the rubber top yet somehow it remains useable to this day. I also had a flask of ECY Brett starter in there frozen solid and thankfully that one I was able to revive.

As for your dry yeast, if a slurry make a starter. If dry, that's the best way to store it.

I'm not lucky enough have a kegging set-up yet, so no, I have not. Though I'll be using a fridge instead of a chest freezer when I do.

    The yeast is fine.

In related news, I was in Wisconsin yesterday and picked up a bottle of the NG Strawberry Rhubarb, along with Serendipity and Raspberry Tart. Looking forward to trying it, and am quite jealous that you can get it anytime you want.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago, but I froze 2 kegs of homebrew and didn't even know it. I just started noticing that a pint of my porter or Irsih red ale was all it took to make me wobble. When the first keg was kicked i took it out and found a huge ice cube that took up half the keg. I made eis ales.
