Is the recipe so dialed that canning some of their recipes could be in their future?

Such is life... continue to seek it on draft in Seattle or on various trip to PDX like tomorrow!

I had notorious again tonight at NWIPA in portland. My last glass was early this year. It was very good tonight but not as intensely flavored or as syrupy feeling. I had that condesed ipa in my head and today was just different. The small decrease in abv isn't enough to make that difference. It could be exactly the same and it's just my taste was different. Nonetheless still damn great and I will seek more out as it bounces around portland.

Maybe my palate is just warped, but so far I feel as if there has been at some slight batch variation, at least from keg to keg. The glasses I had at the Horse Brass and Broken Top (Bend) were excellent, for sure, but not what I would call mind blowing. On the other hand, a glass I had Wednesday from a fresh keg at 16 tons was absolutely stunning, and had me rethinking my earlier comment about PtY being superior (IMHO).

Regardless.... the current batch is just excellent. For anyone living close by (to Eugene), at least for now, 16 tons is still selling growlers for $24, and half growler "growlettes" for $12 I believe. Cheers!

I love this beer so much. I haven't had the new batch yet but I'm planning on going to NWIPA tonight to indulge in its hoppy goodness! (FWIW I also saw they had velvet merkin on tap as of yesterday so double awesome) My parents were in town last time Notorious was around, my dad tried it and loved it and he has been searching for it ever since. He lives in Kent, WA so my question for you Washingtonians (Washingtonites?) is, what would be the best place to go this weekend to get food and this delicious brew of which we speak? Enigine No. 9? Or is there another location you would recomend (maybe closer to Kent-ucky) (I love parenthisis).

It's not currently on tap at Brouwers, Burgundian (they have RPM) , Bottleworks, Uber, or Pine Box (Backbone stout).

The Beer Authority had it on tap. Not sure if it's still on though.

They'll actually fill full growlers of Notorious? That's pretty sweet! They won't do that at the brewery.

I would check the Parkway Tavern and Pint Defiance as well (both in Tacoma). Both places seem to carry a lot of boneyard stuff, so they would be my frist choices, along with E9. You can check the Red Hot as well, but my guess is that E9 and the Parkway are your best bets in a tavern environment.

Neither spot is exactly a culinary oasis, but the food is certainly solid, and should go well with Notorious. Red Hot has a very limited menu (as they don't actually have a kitchen), and of course Pint Defiance just sells chips and the like. If your dad strikes out with all those places, but still really, really wants some notorious, then his best bet would probably be to drive down to the Eastside club in Olympia. I know that's a bit of a drive from Kent, but the draft selection there is superb, and if anyplace in the area is going to have notorious, I would think it would be there. Good luck!

Boneyard will do growler fills of Notorious. I got one filled over Memorial Day weekend.

I know. I was very, very surprised.

Apparently they got in a couple of half kegs, which I assume is the reason they're currently filling entire growlers. Not sure how long they'll keep that up (though truth be told, as much as I love the stuff, I really can't imagine trying to put down a full growler of notorioius), but at least for now, they're doing it.

(actually, they must have gotten more than that, as aside from the back up keg at the taphouse, the beer is also on tap over at the cafe as well I believe).

Really? They had a note on the tasting board that said "32 oz growlers only".

I had PtY 5 years running the last five years they distributed to Washington. The PtY that I had three years ago on tap at the Eastside was the best beer I've ever had without a doubt. I've had Notorious three times but not in the last 6 months. I've never found Notorious to even rival that year of PtY that I had three years ago. It's not just Notorious --- that goes for Wisdom Seeker, The Brother/The Sister, Whiny the Complainer, etc.) that every year someone says is better that PtY. Not every glass of PtY I've had has been a good as I found that year but they've all been world-class beers. The problem that I've had with Notorious compared to PtY is that it doesn't hide the booze nearly as well as PtY. I just don't dig overly boozy IPAs (or any beer for that matter).

I'm willing to conceded that maybe Boneyard has dialed the recipe in and that I could be due for another sample. But if that haven't hid the booze better, I for one am likely not to appreciate it.

Hop Venom on the other hand...

Too bad Eugene and Bend are 5 hours away. Maybe someone will open a growler shop in Ashland or Medford? Does anyone know if places in those towns even carry Boneyard? I would assume so, but I haven't been up there in a while.

Maybe they were being nice over Memorial Day? All I know is they filled it and it was on the board for $20.

So that's the RR growler that's so much better than every other growler. :stuck_out_tongue:
