Info direct from Tony, sad times. They arent adding any new accounts either, the focus is going to be on perfecting his recipes and making a better product not more product.

I think this is a good idea if you like quality beer.
I remember 5 or 6 years ago Pelican pulled back also..they had been rising rapidly and decided to pullback for a while.
Now they are slowly increasing again and should take off when their Tillamook facility comes on line.
Sometimes you gotta step back to move forward strongly.

This is definitely sad, but I respect the decision. At least I can drive to Seattle and Portland fairly easily and get it regularly still.

How much better does their beer need to be?

Seriously though, it's their brewery to run as they see fit, but I'm a little bummed about this because I drink most of my beer at home and I'd love to keep my fridge stocked w/ RPM, Hop Venom, etc. I guess I'll just keep buyinig more beer from their competitors instead.

Messing with his current recipes can be risky. It could go the other way for him. People love his current beer so why mess with it. I don't understand why they at least don't bottle using 22 oz bombers.

This seems like a meaningless threat. If they have no trouble selling all the beer they can make (which appears to be the case), why should they particularly care about whether it's convenient for you, specifically, to buy?

I don't think draheim's comment is as much a threat as much as he is merely conceding that, though he would like to enjoy Boneyard more often, he'll have to settle for something else most of the time because the majority of his beer consumption is at home. I'm in the same boat, and I feel the same way.

66jzmstr understood me clearly. I agree with you that it would be a meaningless threat, if that's what it was. It's more just a statement of fact.

Very sad, but they are supplying three massive beer markets with great beer. Between Portland, Seattle and Bend they probably have their hands full. A keg of Hop Venom kicks in 4 hours at Chuck's. It's hard to produce enough beer to keep up with a demand like that.

A good problem to have if you are Boneyard. I truly believe that the distro to King County is at the root of their current inability to maintain product in the pipeline. They had no problem at the old, smaller production facility in keeping up with OR demand. Once they headed north, all bets were off. I recall seeing their newly purchased canning line, shrink wrapped, in their facility, ready to go. But no time to implement since they were going balls out to meet the keg demand. Nothing has changed, except that the demand has ramped up. Good for Boneyard.

I drink boneyard beer from growlers a couple times a week, my at home consumption wouldnt really be affected by canning tbh. i was mainly looking forward to canning for my regular trade partners.

We ruin it for everyone. Try getting something passed at the state level without King County's support.

To me, this is not sad. I drink a lot of Boneyard. Probably more than the average person, and I love it. However, each batch of their beers has been different since the day I started drinking it. When they switched ABV on most beers, their beers changed.

In talking with Tony, they've certainly had to make due with their hop allocation to keep up with accounts and are barely able to brew enough beer as it is. It sounded like the struggle to keep up with demand lead to some recipe improvising, especially to make up for hop shortages.

I'm stoked to have them hone in better on constancy over quantity. Boneyard is already awesome, but a consistent Boneyard means an amazing end result no matter where you drink it. This is the right move.

Not that often. There are only a few places in town that regularly carry Boneyard (here's a thread about it), but none of them are particularly convenient for me, and to my knowledge some of them don't even fill growlers. Also, it's not all that often that I want 64oz of the same beer within a growler's shelf life. 12oz or 16oz cans are my ideal format.

I didn't even notice who I was replying to. I guess the supply is pretty limited up your way. It's easy to find down here, in fact I just saw growler fills of Hop Venom yesterday for $13. It'd be a beast to take down a full 64 at once!

I'm not too bummed about this, but that's because of my location. Growler fills of Hop Venom & RPM are easy to come by, and the rest of the line-up is pretty easily obtainable most of the time. I'd be a little more upset if I was a fan from out of the region, I suppose.

They just need to start sending Bone-a-Fide kegs over here to Salem and I'll be all set.

Fine with me. I find that when a beer is readily available in bottles or cans, I am more likely to pass it up on draft. I like going out and looking forward to running into Boneyard on draft. Plenty of OR IPAs to take camping these days.
