The way it was explained to me, at Boneyard, they had so much demand that they didn't have time to change over to canning. They were in the process of moving to a bigger place and expected to can at some indefinite point in the future.

So, this means they're bottling right?

    Right!?!

    ...right?

Yeah, I'd like to see their stuff in cans. Like some other folks have mentioned, I prefer to drink at home. Having said that, quality is more important to me than accessibility, so I applaud their decision-I'm sure it wasn't an easy one, especially since they had already invested in a canning line. Still, I'd hate to see quality or consistency sacrificed for this, and I can always get growlers. And for those grumbling about not being able to finish a full growler, invest in a flip-top 1/2 growler (grumbler) and 1/4 growler (grenade). If you're anything like me, they'll be your new best friends!

Oh, and to those worried about them messing with the recipes, I'm guessing that this is not what is happening. I think it's just a concern that ramping up production too quickly could result in a loss of quality and/or consistency.

$5 says this changes again by year's end. Oh, Boneyard.

Canning would have opened up the option for more people to try the beer, so this is probably for the best.

    For me.
I have a feeling that if RPM was canned its popularity would skyrocket, leaving it more difficult for me to obtain.

    Purely selfish.

quick question about boneyard, was gonna start a thread but saw this thread. do they fill any growler? just theirs? just 64oz? i'm going up to bend in a few weeks and am planning on getting as many growlers as i can, and i'm wondering if i can fill my 22oz HF growler. also how much is their growler glass?

I don't know about 22oz growler fills, but I have a 32oz Boneyard grumbler I bought at the brewery. I don't remember the price offhand, however. (I want to say 7 or 8 dollars.) They also have 64 oz growlers as well.

You can get any growlers filled with any branding. It's not like California.

    no, it sure isn't....

If you mean like a wine shipper, then I'm pretty sure the answer is no. The 32 ounce containers I've seen are a bit too fat to fit into a slot for meant for a 750 ml. bottle. If you have a cardboard shipper you might be able to modify it so that it can carry the growlettes you're referring to, but of course that would cut down on the number of growlettes you could fit into it.

It's none of my business of course, but how many growlers are you hoping to bring back? If properly sealed they'll last for several weeks (from what I've read), perhaps even longer, but even so. If you bring back a dozen growlers or growletters of RPM or Hop Venom, you'll be cracking one open and drinking it practically every day. :-)

I had a grenade of notorious (plastic cap, not standard metal) that I had to hold onto for about 2 weeks for a friend coming into town. It held up fantastic.

yeah, a wine shipper. i wouldn't expect the 32oz to fit but worth asking i guess.

probably not more than 2-3 for myself + a few for friends. i am confident i could drink a dozen growlers of RPM before they go bad though : )

They'll fill any grower. They gladly filled my 64 oz. Russian River grenade with Notorious on Saturday. It's not California, remember.

I don't know how much they'd price a 22 oz. growler fill, but their prices are for 64 oz and 32's are just 50% off that price. Also, they only tend to have 4-5 things on tap at any one time at the brewery. One of those always seems to be RPM but everything else is a crapshoot, so don't go in expecting to get exactly what you want. Plus, the other beers available aren't always allowed for growler fills (ie. Femme Fatale during Memorial Day Weekend 2012 was for in-house tasting). This past weekend they had Bone-a-fide Pale ($9), RPM ($9), Black 13 ($9), Notorious IPA3 ($20) and a Habenaro-infused Diablo Rojo ($13).

of the 3 boneyard beers i had in portland RPM was definitely my favorite (other 2 were hop venom and suge knite) so that works just fine for me. i hope the triple IPA is still around in a few weeks

Jackson's Corner always has a couple on tap, too. I had Backbone Stout there Friday night, and Femme Fatale and Girl Beer last Memorial Day.
