G'Day everyone, I got two bottles each of Frelser and Boogoop and would like to know which one has better aging potential.

    Cheers

You have two bottles of each, why not drink one then age the other?

can't speak for frelser, but drink at least one boogoop ASAP. if you're like me, you'll see that not only is the malt already decadent enough, but the huge hop flavors (which will fade with time) are a good 50% of why the beer is so good.

then, decide if you're really curious enough about how the malt side will develop to forgo all the hops. for me, the answer is "i'm not curious enough, and i love it the way it is," but you may have a different answer. cellaring both boogoop bottles would be a travesty IMO though.

I agree with Pahn on the Boogoop. I was lucky enough to have it at the FFF brewpub on tap. It was wonderful. In my opinion, I can't see how aging it would make it better. It's such a well made and hard to acquire beer, I would be pretty upset with myself if I aged one and pushed it past its prime.

Indiana had issues with the Shelton Brothers at the time that this was getting back to the states. So, we didn't get any in bottles. FFF did release Rugoop two years in a row though. So, maybe we'll get lucky and see FFF release Boogoop from their own facility. Time will tell.

Three Floyds only did a single release of Ruggoop that was around for about 3 weeks before it was gone. Brewpub only and never hit distribution. Cuvee de Viking was released at the 15th anniversary which was Rugoop aged in Red Wine Barrels, perhaps that is what you were thinkin of?

Boogoop was on tap at Three Floyds, but the bottling for this batch was done only through Mikkeller and will not be released from Three Floyds.

In my opinion BooGoop is already on the decline from when it was fresh, and I would drink it ASAP. The "goop" beers haven't aged like a typical barley based barleywine, and whats sets them apart is the adjunct base (in this case Buckwheat) and the typical Three Floyds hop forward aroma / flavor.

    Cheers!

I believe that you are incorrect about the Rugoop only being a single release. I got two bottles from the release in the spring of 2009. It was released again in 2010. I do concur with you though on the fact that it was brewpub only.

Hvdegoop was released once in 2008 (not sure if it ever hit distro), Oatgoop was released in Spring 2009 (Definitely hit distro), Ruggoop was released once in fall 2010 (Brewpub only), Boogoop was released fall 2011 (Mikkeller distribution).

You can check the reviews on both RateBeer and BeerAdvocate to confirm the dates.

Here is the information from the Three Floyds website regarding the release of Ruggoop.

Yah. I put a thread on this site to see if anyone had seen it. The Indiana distributor was kind enough to send me a beer mail saying that his company, in southern Indiana, was the new importer. They were hoping to cover the whole state eventually. At that point they were even getting stuff as far north as Fort Wayne. They just hadn't gotten into northwest Indiana yet.
