IMO, there has been a true plus in the beer from inception...I mean how could there not be?? They aren't there yet, and $14.99 is more than I am willing to pay for to keep seeing if they have dialed it in. Draft only for me, but even that will be tough with so many current, superior products. If DL does dial it in and gets to a Trillium, TH or HT level I would gladly pay $14.99 once or twice a month.

Have not tried it yet, but seen the 1/6 batch for $12.99. Anyone know if it holds up well? Debating if I should pick one up even at 5ish weeks old?

The issue isn't the price... ~$15/four-pack of pint cans is fine pricing for DIPA and where the market seems to be settling. The issue many have had is quality, but things seem to be improving on that front. I'm still reaching for a four-pack of Night Shift's 87 at the exact same price for a better beer IMO. If Boom Sauce continues to improve, I'll add it into my rotation, dropping the price by a buck or two isn't going to change anything for me, but an improvement in the product will.

I am in CT and while I was as in ME I bought a single of Boom Sauce and Steal This Can, from something around a 12/28 canning date about 2 weeks ago. I liked Boom Sauce a lot but not STC so much. I also had Boom Sauce on tap and thought it was good I would definitely seek it out again.

So I just cracked my first distro can of Consolation Prize and wow, this beer is LH's best brew by a country mile.

If the Boom Sauce marketing was done for THIS beer everyone would be rather copacetic right?

Agreed. I had Consolation Prize when it first came out and thought it was the best LHBC beer by quite a bit. While Boom Sauce has improved recently, so as Consolation Prize. Had one last night from the 2/8 back and thought it was great.

yup. The 2/8 batch is really good. I've always really liked the consolation prize, but haven't had it since probably last August. This stuff is deadly at 9.5%.

And, at $17/four pack, actually one of the cheaper beers of that strength.

Aka $12.75 4x12oz. That seems pretty close to market rate for DIPAs, which I'd peg at $10-12/4pk...

Is Consolation Prize only available at the brewery? Any sightings south of Boston?

I got free tix to the Boston Globe Travel beer pavilion (thx @loupap!) this afternoon and unfortunately the Consolation Prize listed was not available. But I had Boom Sauce and it was considerably better than the early versions I had last summer. Kind of between a "juice blanket" and "pine needle blanket"...

Just drank a Boom Sauce. Still no nose, which is something I hoped had improved. I think the body is a bit light, too. But there are hops. I'll buy more but its a close call between Boom and the Rebel mixer from Sam.

I've been a big fan of Boom Sauce the past few months, picking up 4 packs often and really enjoying it. I opened one can from the 4/11 batch last night and immediately noticed the color was off, much more amber and clear than the usual light yellow slightly hazy color. The taste was similarly off. Much more bitter than it had been, and the flavor in general was just way different, in a bad way. I actually didn't even want to finish it, dumping out the last half.

Has anyone else tried this and had similar experiences? I have a vague memory of reading that their brewer left recently, is that true? Hoping this is a one off mistake.

I have cans from the 4/22 batch and I felt the same about those. Something is off. It didn't have the citrus/hop aroma or taste that I had in previous batches. I drank the entire can but it was not very enjoyable to be honest.

The old brewer quit at the end of February/early March, so the timeline of the change matches the new brewer taking over. I'm guessing the new brewer is either changing it completely, tweaking some things, or doesn't have the recipe dialed in the same way. In any scenario, if you haven't liked recent batches I'd give it some time and try it later.

Was he the original brewer (ex-Night Shift guy) or his replacement?
