Drinking a fresh can of BS now and I'm really happy with it. Glad they worked on their investment instead of pandering to the BA masses. The smart move is paying off for those who just want good beer.

Pretty sure changing the beer = pandering to the masses who told them it sucked. As they should have.

Drinking a can with a packaging date of 12/20 ... nearly clear. Minty, pine, citrusy, & fresh. Perhaps not a night and day difference but it has significantly changed from day one.

We can just assume that with snarky wit or perhaps they are just dialing things in. FWIW the rating has increase a bit ... now an 86. Anything less than a 90 is drainpour right? ;-) I'd believe this if it was below an 80 out of the gate though none of it can really be black and white.

FWIW, the lack of communication doesn't help ... would love to see more info from them, just like everyone else.

From the source or did you find it in a store? Thanks,

well I don't think it was the beer quality that was ever the big problem. it was the combination of

Beer Quality + Super Premium Price Point + Brash Attitude about ability to make world class beer

    that was the problem.

Purchased at Thompson's Towne Liquor Mart $13.29 for the 4-pack. Haven't been to the brewery yet, hoping to swing by this month.

Thanks for the info. Was the date clearly labeled or did you have to deduce that it was the new batch because it had the new code style on it? So far I've only seen regular dated (Sept.) Boom Sauce and batch number coded STC.

Lord Hobo Brewing has been posting photos of new batches of cans on their Facebook page with the canning date clearly labeled using stickers on top of the plastic 4-pack holders. The latest photos posted include 12/23 and 1/5 for Boomsauce and 12/31 for Steal This Can.

While I understand any brewery's hesitancy to cop to putting out an inferior product, many breweries have released "tweaked" or "2.0" versions of beers. Many of Sixpoint's beers have been tweaked (Jammer Gose, Hi-Res, Bengali) and they are always open about it. And, Stone retooled Ruination as Ruination 2.0. Of course, all of the beers in those examples were much better to begin with and neither brewery did anything assholic.

But, I think there is a way to message that Boom Sauce has been tweaked, is improved, give us another shot, etc.

Grabbed a 4 pack labeled 1/6/16 last night. To my admittedly foggy memory, it's a *very* different beer. It has a decent, fruity nose and is not anything close to overly malty. I wouldn't have thought to describe it this way if Jason hadn't mentioned it but "mint" is prominent in the taste and gives it a sort of unusual bitterness. It had a fairly thin and crisp feel to it though, which isn't what I'm usually looking for in a DIPA. It definitely isn't at all close to the soft, rounded feel of the NE style that they appear to be after (that's what "juice blanket" brings to mind for me as an expectation).

Expectations and can descriptions aside though, I think it's a pretty good beer. Roughly on par with something like Space Juice or Bootleg Fireworks if not the big boys. I'm not eager to spend $15 on another 4 pack but that has more to do with the fact that, for me, that price point is a very exclusive club. At $12 I'd buy it now and again.

The store I was at had a huge stack of the new batch so hopefully they'll fare better than the lingering last batch. And I wonder whether they have indeed done away with the blending idea unless they've completely overhauled the other 3 as well.

Had the 12/22 batch in RI and thought it was amazing. Lighter color and definitely less malt than previous batch. Great tropical nose and nice balance of pine, hops and tropical notes on the palate.

BS scores a 97 in the latest Craft Beer and Brewing mag. Interesting that the beer is still described as a blend....and there is a particular one word curiously missing .... Nice to see them getting some love.

Finally cracked one of the newer batche (12/22) and as most people noted I was pleasantly surprised how much better this beer is now. Fantastic nose out of the can and much more hop forward and smooth. To my taste buds still a tad too sweet on the back end but this is light years of improvement over some of the batches earlier this fall / late summer.
