I hadn’t heard that story until just now. That’s awesome. My inspiration for using spruce came from historical, colonial brewers who would learn tricks from the Native Americans on how to use indigenous ingredients as substitutes for barley and hops when shipments were scarce to the new world. I also was reminded of the use of spruce while hiking in the woods one spring when the tips were budding and very fragrant. It smelled delicious so it was absolutely necessary they made it into a beer. Juicy Tree is my most favorite beer of all time and it does fuck you up in a very psychotropic kind of way if you’re not paying attention

 

Spruce Pilsner of course but one of our original first beers Pontius Road Pilsner is right up there. I recently just had one from New Glarus called Two Women that was outstanding

Hmmm…. my hands, A ladle, broken bottle, plastic cup…. I suppose I survived them all

 

We didn't have the exact ABV when we had the labels printed but she turned out to be 9.7%
