Does anyone know of anything beer related in Boothbay Harbor? Even a bar with a halfway decent beer list? The Places directory on BA is completely empty. I suppose I don't need much more than some Geary's Summer and lobster, but I figure there has to be something there... I know about Lion's Pride, Marshall Wharf, and other big coastal attractions, so I'm mostly just looking for info in town... Thanks!
Boothbay Craft Brewery at Boothbay Resort could be open soon. The Vintage House (bottle shop) has a good selection. Win and Lori are great at the Resort while we stayed a couple years ago. Contact Win if you plan to stop up, he may want to do some trades if that interests you.
Maine Brewers Guild is hosting a craft beer fest in Boothbay on July 15th - heard there were a lot of excellent ME brews there last year, and nary a Shipyard in sight. I am heading up to it this year to see if it's true.
The Vintage House no longer has a good beer or wine selection... in a way. To keep their alcohol license simple, they'll only be selling their own beer now, but they'll still have a cheese selection. Not sure if they've bottled their beer and are selling yet but they will be soon from what I've heard.
No prob, Dave - just failed to glance at the calender before posting. Tickets are in hand, and driving over the 13th.
I was at Boothbay Craft Brewery and Resort for Father's Day weekend...My wife is very pregnant so we had to pass on the Festival but it should be spectacular. Win had his first batch in primary so I bet they're doing growler fills by now. Great folks ! MacSeagull's said they had Oxbow on draft but it was kicked when we were there...everywhere we went had Geary's and the usual suspects...
They were there last year and I'm sure they'll be there this year. As he was president of the Guild, I'm sure it would be accurate to say Fred was "instrumental" in making this event possible.
"Nary" being a relative term, unlike the fest at Augusta which was 50% Shipyard products. Won't keep me away, just more interested in fests that Shipyard doesn't dominate so much.
I just saw a Facebook post that Boothbay Craft Brewery officially sold it's first growler today. I believe they're selling 32ozers and 64ozers...
To answer my own question for future searchers/travelers... For the most place, Boothbay is Ringwood heaven. Lots of Shipyard, Gritty's, Geary's, and Sea Dog everywhere, with most places having a couple of seasonals/flagships from the above lot. There's not much to get excited about in town. Thistle Inn and McSeagull's are the "beer destinations" according to what everyone said and what I saw - but that will get you an Oxbow or Allagash White, maybe a Dogfish Head.
This event is the best beer festival in Maine, I'm told. Yes, a lot of the breweries are average, but everyone brings special kegs, so there should be some fun stuff to try. Allagash, Oxbow, Maine Beer, Rising Tide and Sebago will be there, which means there will be plenty of good beer. And it's a lot more intimate than most fests, so you can actually talk with the brewers. No beer/pour tickets either! I'll be in attendance. See ya there, bub.
Boothbay beer -- Boathouse Bistro on the By-Way has great food and pretty decent beer selection -- heavy on the larger ME breweries, but also DFH and Unibroue Maudite always on. There's also a new oyster/raw-bar sort of place on Pier One, right beside Knot Gray's, which had a nice selection of Maine Beer Co, DFH, Allagash, and Oxbow taps (looking through the window one night this spring).
