I actually agree with that. Too boozy for me and Id rather drink something more milder.

Citra Bro is the booziest IPA/DIPA I've ever had. Somewhere in the 9% range, whereas I've had 12% DIPAs hide the booze twice as well.

Also assuming OP meant to include DIPA...
Knuckle Sandwich by Bootleggers is a beautifully warm DIPA. A favorite with me.
Waldo's from Lagunitas was also terrific in the same kinda way.

Single IPA? Nothing boozy comes to mind.

Personally, I thought barrel aged Narwhal was a little boozy.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.....

Many BA's who post here do the same.

The last place I'd want to find boozy heat is in an IPA, so that limbo (nice pun) just sounds like a poorly made example of one imho.

Fresh 120 Minute is absolutely mind blowing and absolutely balanced for that high an alcohol level. So much hop flavor and sweetness all rolled together. I just recently had a super fresh bottle in February (dated January 2015) and it was orgasmic.

120 is a TIPA so it isn't what the OP is talking about. But trying to remember a regular IPA that was boozy is making me think........and I can't seem to recall one.

the higher the abv. the more I'll allow the booze to come through. imo, in lower abv. IPA's booziness is a flaw. Six Point's HighRes is boozy to a flaw.

I'm looking for single IPA's only. Another single IPA I always find boozy is Harpoons IPA. Funny thing is, it's only 5.9%

I've never had a boozy IPA myself. Even the many IPA's/DIPA's I've had over 7% drank really well for high ABV brews. I don't see "boozy" as a quality that one would seek out but I guess to each his own!

Snake Dog and Raging Bitch by Flying Dog tend to be hot, at least to my senses. Snake less so, and with Bitch you could make an argument about the yeast strain and 8.3% pushing it out of IPA range. Both are classed by the brewery as IPAs though.

Heavy Seas Loose Cannon, though not boozy when fresh, can certainly get there after sitting on tap for too long. It's almost as if the malt backbone to cover the alcohol disappears into a bit of light caramel malt and bittering hop additions.

Edit: I should note these are both local examples, so mileage may vary (literally in some cases). I'd make the Flying Dog argument even when fresh though, as The Truth and most of the Single Hop series aren't boozy and outclass on alcohol by a good degree.

Love AGE too. It's just not a single IPA (which this thread is about)

Is it possible most humans aren't able to taste booze or feel heat below ~7.5%? Not to say the alcohol doesn't still contribute to the mouthfeel. But I think sommeliers would laugh at anyone calling a 10% Riesling hot and not only because they're accustomed to 14% balanced wines.
