More about the atmosphere I guess. It'll be my first time there and something I thought I should experience at least once. And not all German beers are swill. There are definitely some well made ones (Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Andechs) and I give a lot of credit to those that are able to do it within such simple/strict guidelines.

I know there's a lot more to German beer, but generally not to Oktoberfest  I wouldn't be expecting to drink Andechs or Schneider 2 days straight :stuck_out_tongue:

    Prosit! Einz, zwei, saufen!

Trust me... I ain't saying all German beers are swill. The beers at Octoberfest are probably not swill. I would love to go to Munich actually. Just not during Octoberfest.

    I hear ya...
If Narke bring their big guns that will make up for a lot. Struise is looking pretty solid.
    Still going...

I think Emelisse might be a bit of a sleeper hit this year. I always found their beers a tad boring but very solid. Looks like they're going in guns blazing this time. Remains to be seen what De Molen pulls out of the bag themselves.

Struise's okay, but compare it to what they brought the last two years and what they're sending over to Stockholm and the contrast is just depressing :stuck_out_tongue: Looks like they're bring port barrel aged Black Albert to Stockholm, think that might be Black Damnation XII.

I heard from Thijs (Brabander) that Närke isn't selling bottles of Stormaktsporter, but that doesn't mean they won't bring it on tap! One can only hope.

Ahhh.. pay more, drink more... maybe the kids will be getting new shoes after all.

Urbain said (early July) they were limited in what they could bring because they will be sharing their new tap instalation with de Molen and Alvinne.

Narke brought all the Stormie variants 2 years ago (and sold bottles in the shop), last year their line up wasn't exciting at all.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Narke was a last minute addition to the fest last year. I remember the brewer almost appologizing to me for only having 2 beers. Man I would love to try some stormskporter and will kill to bring a few bottles back for the guys in my Boston tasting group.

Don't sleep on The Kernel guys. I freaking love there beers. Great guys to boot. I am curious what Evan will be bringing. I haven't tried the double citra but I hear that is the best beer they have made to date.

For me this is pretty much a 100% tick fest for tender. I don't think any of the beers listed have ever come close to being available in the US.

The exchange rate (Euro to USD) is kick ass right now so I could care less if it is 4 euro more. If I am on vacation it is all funny money to me anyway! lol

You are right. Narke brought only two beers. I think personal circumstances had a lot to do with that.

Tick fest galore for you Mike. De Molen also just released their collab saison they made with Hoppin Frog, Super Charged. It should still be around when you get there.

Euro has been crashing down to earth making my recent US trip expensive... with your crazy all the same color money.

haha.... I feel weird with a pocket filled with change that is worth 20 euros:slight_smile:

I actually really like one of the 2 Narke beers last year. It was a pale ale with whiskey peat smoked malt. It was in the top 10 ticks for tender in the last fest. I think you are right about personal circumstances with Narke. Real nice guy from the brewery though and I appreciated the death metal shirt he was wearing. Canibal Corpse if I remember correctly.

I am wondering why Struise isn't ice machine treating anything this year? The Iced S.H.I.T and Messy were sweet.

Did Struise ice SHIT? And yes, Messy was glorious but Double Black was a lot more balanced.

If my memory serves me right... Urbain told me that they were running the S.H.I.T. through the ice machine during the fest. The numbers might be off but he said it was about 12% abv at the start (noon) and he expected it to top out at 17-18%. I believe Bart told me there was a bit of Messy left in the line from the night before so techinically it was Messy S.H.I.T. I remember S.H.I.T having some ice crystals and slight coffee and whisky note to it. I freaking love the guys from Struise... You couldn't make this up if you tried.

My best bud Pete was at Mes's wedding and had both MESSY and S.H.I.T. at the wedding and he said that the S.H.I.T. was better at the wedding than the fest.

Another highlight for me was the Kernel Citra/De Molen Hot and Spicy hand blend that one of the guys from Kernel did. It worked suprisingly well.

Totally stoked for Borefts! I've been to Alvinne twice, Stockholm Beer & Whiskey, and the Copenhagen Beer Celebration, but all I ever here from my European friends is how great Borefts is. I missed it last year, but nothing will keep me away this year.
