EVOO in Kendall Sq. Cambridge. Wonderful, creative, fresh food with a solid beer list. Then head to CBC for a beer or 2 after. Yes, I did this with my wife a month ago for our anny.

I'd choose from Russell House, Craigie on Main, or Puritan and Co. All Cambridge places though. Maybe Tavern Road in fort point but I haven't eaten there yet.

Edit: in regards to cocktails at Eastern Standard/Island Creek, hit up Hawthorne inside the hotel between them. Its a cocktail place opened by the bar manager of both those restaurants.

Make sure you tell us what you decided on and how it was.

Definitely try Craigie if you can afford it. Or if you can't. Totally worth it.

Food at Toro is fantastic! All those small plates can add up quickly though ($$$).
Beer list is small but well chosen and also pricey http://www.toro-restaurant.com/menus/drinksmenu.jpg

At a spot like this, you might better better off with wine (or Notch Session Pils).

Be prepared for up to an insane wait depending on the night. Sometimes its better to hover over seats at the bar and wait for someone to leave. There is an OK beer list, a lot better than it used to be, but it's expensive. At that price range I'd focus on the wine menu instead.

I like going there during restaurant week because it's the only time they take reservations.

Last time I went they were also running a list for bar seats. It was in January and they had just started the practice, so maybe they have reverted to the old free-for-all, but my wife and I got bar seats within about 20 minutes after arriving around 6:30 on a Saturday night. I skipped the beers and went with cocktails and Tempranillo for the evening. Food was fantastic as always - make sure to have some Spanish ham.

Planning earlier or later than the dinner crowd seems to work better. Yes the cocktails are great too. Miso butter uni panini is disgustingly good. Generally the organ meats and specials are where it's at.

I'd recommend Puritan & Co. in Inman Square in Cambridge--I've only had a snack there, but it was very good and I've heard good things about the food in general. It's nice, upscale, but not pretentious or outrageously priced, and they have a small, but solid draft list, including Wormtown IPA the last time I was in.
