Hi all. Visiting Boston Saturday-Tuesday (22-26). Compiled a large list of breweries and bars to check out, but I'm wondering what's not really important to visit according to locals. Saturday night I was considering going to the Revs match as well, which would cut into my exploring time. If you have opinions or suggestions on what to cut, please let me know. I'll leave the extensive lists here. Bars: Deep Ellum Lulu's Sunset Tap Publick House Lower Depths Bukowski (either location) Five Horses (either location) The Gallows Ginger Man Tip Tap Room Meadhall CBC Lord Hobo Breweries: Trillium Night Shift Mystic Aeronaut Lamplighter Slumbrew Cheers!
Jack's Abby/Springdale in Framingham is a fun stop. 2 taprooms in one building. Jack's Abby is closed on Mondays and Springdale is closed Mondays-Wednesdays.
In that case, I'd pare the bar list down to: CBC Lord Hobo Five Horses (Somerville) (optional) Meadhall (optional) Other spots you listed are good and are worth hitting if you are coming in to downtown Boston (Ginger Man, etc.) or Allston/Brighton (Sunset, Deep Ellum), but not worth a long trip IMO
Since you are staying in Somerville check out Winter Hill Brewing. Nice little brewpub. Olde Magouns Saloon is a good bar in Somerville. Cambridge Brewing is a must. Lots of good stuff near it like Lord Hobo, Atwoods Tavern, A4cade, Lamplighter. That is the best beer neighborhood in the Boston area. Row 34 is a great bar with excellent seafood next to Trillium.
Definitely check out CBC. I'm personally not a fan of Lord Hobo's taproom, gets pretty packed depending on the time and the crowd can be pretty hit or miss. Great tap list though, can't deny that. Five Horse in Davis is great, usually a few Trillium offerings as of late and some other solid offerings as well. Their cornbread is also amazing. If you're looking for a bottle shop in the area, go to Ball Square or Pemberton Farms. Steer clear of Downtown Wine and Spirits. Winter Hill is also a cool spot and pretty close by all of that as well.
In addition to the good suggestions above, you will also be staying close by to three of my favorites: Bantam Cider's taproom (open fri/sat/sun), The Independent (solid beer list and food) and Bronwyn (good selection of German beer). One other note: I see The Lower Depths on your list. They recently underwent a big menu (and management?) change. Not sure how/if it affected their beer options. It wasn't the best option before the switch up anyway. I would recommend crossing it off your list. Your other bar picks look solid IMO.
I think hitting Fort Point area is a must and definitely has a more local feel. You can grab cans at trillium then hit awesome restaurants/bars. -Row 34 - incredible seafood and beer selection -City Tap house - just opened, also solid food and extensive beer menu -Drink - really cool cocktail bar
The Gallows isn't a beer bar, if that's what you are looking for. Good place for cocktails though. In the South End, for beer, you got Picco or Five Horses. Or Banyan if you want a beer slushie
Definitely go to the Revs match. Gillette has Wormtown Be Hoppy on tap, it's a nice sports/beer experience. Sat-Tue doesn't really set you up to go out to Tree House. Swing by Idle Hands. It's like 2 miles north of Night Shift.
