Heading into town this weekend with some buddies with no real agenda outside of the Sox game on Saturday and getting to Trillium. Staying in Back Bay, no car, but willing to Lyft around the city. We all like good beer and food (not necessarily expensive) and plan on spending time partaking in both.
I searched a few pages in this forum, but did not see a Boston specific thread that is current. My apologies if this gets asked all of the time and I missed the thread.
What places are high on your list? Fan of every category of beer besides sours, just looking for quality and good experience.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

There are lots of good places in the city, but Cambridge Brewing Company (CBC) is the one absolute must, in my opinion. They just celebrated their 30th anniversary and are still the best brewery (and one of the best patios) in the city. Their best beers are not hop-forward juice bombs (though they do a nice job at those too), but wonderfully complex saisons, lagers, sours and barleywines. They had 30 beers on-tap for their 30th anniversary this past weekend, and no doubt there will be plenty of excellent beers on-tap this weekend too.

As a bonus, it's a short walk from the CBC to Lamplighter, which is a much more recent addition but one of the other excellent breweries in the area.

+1 for CBC. Go there and thank us later.

Lewer Depths in Kenmore Square is a nice spot before the Sox game.

    p.s. Go Sox!

Go to Mystic in Chelsea. From their you can easily lyft to Idle Hands and Nightshift as well. If you want the best beer and good vibes do this, but if you want a better scene and more to do then the Cambridge, Somerville area like whats mentioned above will be better

Eat at Row 34 before or after Trillium. Excellent seafood and draft list. Pastoral, Lucky's, Blue Dragon, Smoke Shop are other good spots in Fort Point.

Walkable from your hotel: Salty Pig, Bukowski Tavern, Coda, Picco(excellent pizza, homemade ice cream, good draft list).

Near Fenway: Eastern Standard(amazing cocktails, food, and atmosphere, good bottle list). Cornwalls, Boston Beer Works, Hojoko(super fun Japanese bar).

Agreed that Cambridge Brewing is a must visit.

My favorite spots to visit are Idle Hands and Mystic. Mystic used to be number 1 but has dropped down a bit in the last few years.
If you Lyft to either/both of these it is easy to get to Night Shift and Bone Up.

I like Remnant last winter. Fun new place. Can walk to Aeronaut and some other spots from here.

Outside of breweries I always enjoy The Publick House in Brookline (can take the T).

Bar Taco down the street from Trillium FP is pretty good. Much more affordable than Row 34. Breakfast sandwiches and pastries at Flour also near Trillium FP are good too.

If you do the Cambridge thing, Mead Hall has a huge draft list also.

If you go to Mystic, I'd recommend grabbing pizza from Ciao! or a meal at Chelsea Station. The former has arguably the best pizza in Greater Boston, and the latter makes some really delicious pub food and has a solid tap list.

Thanks all. Definitely will make it to CBC. The plan was for lobster rolls at James Hook before or after Trillium (one of the guys with us worked at JH for a couple of years), but Row 34 looks awesome and will get hit at some point. Thanks again for all of the suggestions.

One more question. Any suggestions on bars in Boston proper with a consistently great tap list? I believe cocktails will be drank as well, so knowing where we can satisfy all would be great. Thanks again.

Go to Trillium for beer. Walk 1 block to Row 34 and have some more beer and food. Walk 50 yards to Drink and have great cocktails. Done.

All in Boston and offering full bars, but some (Lulu’s) not super easy to get to:

    Stoddard’s
    Worden Hall
    Tip Tap Room
    Ginger Man
    Five Horses (South End).
    Lulu’s

You’ve got some great suggestions in this chain. You can’t go wrong to be honest. Figure out where you want to be based for an evening and you’re going to have at the minimum at least a few good options for food, beer, cocktails and wine within a 1/4 mile (1/2 mile tops).

Second Stoddard's - an expansive cocktail menu and an interesting (and relatively affordable) tap list. Plus, they often have something on cask.

Drink is great and super close to Trillium but can have a line to get in. I like to get there right when they open. Stoddards is indeed solid for both beer and cocktails. Gingerman was a good suggestion too based on their huge draft list and whiskey selection.

The Fenway area might be the best for cocktails around. The Hawthorne, Island Creek Oyster Bar, Eastern Standard, Citizen Public House, Fools Errand. Near Cambridge Brewing is Cafe Art Science which has very inventive cocktails.

As a final note, if you weren't already aware, traffic in Boston is ultra-miserable but you should have some good walking weather (subject to change) this weekend. Consider all your options in that regard before you hop into a potential meat grinder.

I’m heading to Boston with a buddy this weekend. Just have Friday night for Red Sox game and hanging out after the game then all day Saturday in the city. From all of the suggestions and what you did what would you say is a must hit or what places weren’t anything special?

We ended up with too many people pulling in different directions, so only got to Trillium and Salty Pig. Trillium was great and the burger was outstanding. Only issue was no flights, which limited how many beers I could try. Salty Pig was also good; ate pizza and some charcuterie and drank Maine Lunch which was fantastic
Drank a lot of Lord Hobo 617 at Fenway as well.
    Have fun
