Didn't see a thread for Boston in general, so hoping to get some recs for taprooms, stores, and restaurants with good tap lists.

Ill be in Boston for a conference from 10/18 - 10/21 and will have a ton of time to kill at night. Haven't been to the city in around 6 years or so, and back then the go to spots were Lord Hobo, Mead Hall, and Night Shift, which I think 2 of those 3 are closed now haha. Restaurant recs would be something nicer food wise, but decent tap lists with NE beers. Any newer breweries that I should check out while in the city as well?

Staying at the Hilton Park Plaza, but will make my way over to Cambridge for record shopping eventually, and don't mind taking the train or using uber while I'm there.

    Thanks!

Yup, the OG Lord Hobo and Mead Hall are donezo, and Night Shift isn't quite what it was. Though the Night Shift Lovejoy Wharf location has really good food. It can get very hectic though if there's a game or concert at the Garden, which is basically every night)

Tree House in the Prudential Center is a must-do. Tap list there is small and no food - but they'll have their classics which are can't miss. You could then find an awesome meal to expense in the Pru mall somewhere. (Earl's is pretty good if pricy, then there's steak houses around too)

Trillium in Fort Point or Fenway is also a must. There's good food and local beer in the food hall adjacent to Trillium Fenway.

Row 34 for awesome seafood and beer list. The OG is around the block from Trillium Fort Point and I think there's one in Kendall Square now too so you could combine that with your cambridge jaunt.

Notch Brewing for best lagers around. It's an uber ride but Widowmaker is down the street and they have a strong kitchen there too.

There's a billion good places in Cambridge/Somerville, if I had to pick one single spot it would probably be Olde Magoun's. Portico and Remnant are on the newer side and worth checking out IMO.

You'll get a billion more suggestions and it's probably time to start an updated visitor guide thread.

Best new things since you’ve been here on the beer front are Brighton Notch, Pru Tree House, and Long Live in Roxbury. The first is a borderline must and if you like NEIPAs you should definitely try to get to one of the other two.

Notch is accessible by the Worcester Commuter Rail line which you can grab at Back Bay and head out to Boston Crossing. This is near Widowmaker and about a 10-15 min walk to Notch. The New Balance HQ and shop are there if you're interested in that. I would probably still recommend Ubering but this is an alternative.

The Publick House in Brookline still has good food and a solid taplist. It also has one of the best restaurants in Boston across the street (Bar Vlaha) so you could get some beers and fries beforehand and have a great dinner across the street (Bar Vlaha does not really have great beer options).

Row 34 is generally where I take out of town guests because it has a great tap list while scratching the seafood itch.

Good catch, Long Live Roxbury is also definitely worth going, especially for NEIPA.

There's a factory store over near there, to be honest i haven't found the selection to be that good there. But you won't know if you don't look i suppose.

If you're over there, go into Broken Records beer hall. They have a nice selection of New England beer. I got something from Rising Tide (Portland ME) there recently. Pretty sure they're on Untapped if you'd like to check the list.

Flatbread Pizza in the New Balance complex also has some interesting stuff on tap, and the pizza's good.

The main store is smaller than you would think but has a ton of cool stuff. There is also a outlet store nearby that probably has more stuff.

The stop on the commuter rail is called "Boston Landing." I always mix up what it's called.

In addition to Notch, the little plaza thing it’s in (the Speedway) has great pizza (Pizza Project) and a cool sake bar (Koji Club).

I haven’t eaten there in years, but I always enjoy the taplist at Five Horses in Somerville. They occasionally have a few Hill Farmstead taps. Only if you’re heading out that way.

I think the only places I'd add are Brewers Fork in Charlestown and Tip Tap Room in Beacon Hil.

The wood fired pizzas at Brewers Fork are awesome and pair well with one of the best and most diverse tap lists in the city. Similary, Tip Tap Room has a large and diverse tap list, but it's on the pricey side, as is the food menu.

A huge sleeper is The Lexington in Cambridge Crossing in that new Biotech "neighborbood." A lot of specialty Schilling lager, Fox Farm, Belleflower IPAs, OEC, and some fun mixed fermentation bottles with the likes of Jester King and 3F fruited.

If you're willing to travel to Brookline, Publick House just hosted the Allagash Anniversary party and have a steller line up of draft and bottles. The Once Upon and Orchard Paw Paw is dynamite.

Seconding Magoons (lots of HF always) and Brewers Fork (near perfectly balanced 20+ list)

Brewers Fork and some combination of Olde Magouns/Longcross/Blackmoor (all the same owner) are my 1A and 1B in the city. The former has stuff on tap I don’t see anywhere else.

I see you’re here on a Monday/Tuesday. I’d hit up Brewers Fork and either Magouns or Blackmoor on those days (Blackmoor is about a ten minute walk from Brewers). Those are both not only open on Monday/Tuesday but open at noon. And you’ll have the places to yourself.

A lot of other suggestions on here are solid weekend activities since they may not be open on Monday/Tuesday.

Trillium Fort Point is and they do have dollar oysters from 2-4 I believe during the week.

Love The Lexington. In an area that's forgettable despite having a T stop right there, but The Lexington is awesome. I may be biased because we had our rehearsal dinner/welcome party there, but the food is great and they do a good job with the tap list, particularly with an emphasis on breweries that use local grains.

Lots of great suggestions already. If you are going to be in Cambridge, Area Four has great pizza and an even better taplist. They keep their Untappd list up to date and it looks like they are having a beer garden on the day you arrive too!

You’re going to want to use Uber. A lot of those aren’t close to one another.

While our blocks and distances aren’t as large as say NY. Our public transportation for breweries is essentially useless. Getting from the Pru to Fort Point to Cambridge by bus and train…just use Uber

They should be relatively cheap too depending on time of day.

However, you can hit quite a bit going on the Orange Line from Malden Center to the Pru. Idle Hands, Longcross, Brewers Fork, Blackmoor, Trillium/Fort Point.

For Cambridge you could definitely do a lot of that in a day just by walking. You could start at Lamplighter CX which is right off the Orange Line at Community College. Within a two mile walk from there you have a lot of options in Portico, both Remnant locations (including all that is at Bow Market), Aeronaut, and even the other Lamplighter location.

All that being said, I still Uber a decent amount, and my idea of "walking distance" can be a bit different than others. And some of them you'll definitely need to Uber too like Notch in Brighton. I walk there, but again, I walk/run to places more than most.

Depends on what they want to do in Brighton, but I think an Allston/Brighton brewery / walking tour could be doable for an afternoon before ubering somewhere else. Uber to Notch, walk to Widowmaker, stop at the Sil for a pit stop Gansett. and then grab lunch or dinner at Lulu's.

Oh, for sure. There's certainly things around Notch worth going to. Was just centering the trip around places already mentioned on this thread.

Yeah, it should certainly be mentioned you can walk Boston end to end no problem. If you have the time and don’t mind it. Hell we used to skate the entire city end to end a few times a day into the night. Depending on where the cops chased us from. Typically fucking with us at Copley.

We’ll be in NYC in two weeks. Whole other beast of walking. Oh it’s only like 10 blocks…

Is there a way to get to Lamplighter CX to Community College (or vice versa) easily? The commuter rail track is between and I don't know if there's a clean place to cross.
