Heading to a concert at Jordan Hall tonight, which I understand is a stone's throw from Symphony Hall. I'm never in this area, and I'm wondering if there's a spot for decent beer within a 5 or 10 minute walk. Any ideas?

I believe Bukowski on Dalton street would be the closest good beer destination, a 10 minute walk from the conservatory. Walk up Mass Ave towards Berklee

I'm heading to the MMW show as well. We're grabbing dinner and beer in Kendall and then grabbing a cab for the short ride over the river. Looking forward to a fun night!

Penguin Pizza has a pretty wide selection, but they are more like a short ride on the E line or 39 bus away. Salty Pig is also great but about a 15 minute walk from where you'll be too. Those are just some additional options so you have them- I'd agree on Bukowski being your best option.

may decide to hit the show as well, salty pig has been my pick in this area for a bit, usually some nice choices on draft.

This *100. I graduated from NEU a few years ago. You could also try Parish Cafe (II) on tremont/mass ave, probably your closest option, but from what I remember its a tad overpriced. Penguin would be my reccomendation get ("The Bird" pizza).

If you want the true Jordan Hall/NEC experience I would recommend Uno's or Connor's. If you want good beer I would recommend Penguin... expect a line though. Honestly, I think it's worth the trip across the river to CBC or Lord Hobo though.

Penguin is very good, but my favorite spot in the Brigham Circle area (a few stops on the E or 39) is the Squealing Pig. They have a solid tap list and pretty good bottle list, along with a killer vibe and some of the best pub fare food I've ever had anywhere. I'd say it's totally worth the short trolley/bus ride.

With all due respect to Bukowski's, it is the absolute total antithesis of Symphony Hall. You are going to a classical piano recital. Man up and have a Boston Lager at Symphony Hall.

It sounds like theyre going to Medeski Martin & Wood at Jordan Hall next door. Jam Band...no pretense necessary. Slummin it is the order of the day

Went to Salty Pig before the show. Nice spot. Nice flatbread pizza and decent drafts. Went to Bukowski's after. Thanks for the recos everyone. Would have loved to have gone to CBC, as someone above suggested, but I didn't have time before the show. Bukowski's was fine, except for the deafening music volume. Dang, I'm getting old. I believe I heard an entire god-awful Andrew WK album from start to finish. Although drinking FBS and CBC Great Pumpkin drafts more than made up for the lousy music.

The "Suspicious Minds" cover was the highlight of the night. MMW was stunning. I got a kick out of the coat-hangers too. Never been to Jordan hall. Crowd was fun, focused on the music. Great night. Except for missing the last train out of town...
