Hello all, i'll be in Boston with a good friend on a beer-centric trip from the 9th to the 12th of June. I've done a little research on this forum and the website in general. Was hoping for any recommendations from locals on what you guys recommend as far as breweries and beer bars (beyond the usual suspects of night shift, cambridge, slumbrew, lower depths, sunset, etc which we already plan to hit. Would love any help on finding Trillium (just like everyone else i'm sure) on draft. Also, if anyone has any info on whether it would be worth the trouble of taking public transit out to Jacks Abby or Trillium Canton since we are staying at the airport Hilton and won't have a vehicle. Lastly, if anyone cares to meet up and grab a brew and bs, give me a shout. Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh wow, it's a surprise to see slumbrew on someone's initial list, i think they're pretty good. Taking the commuter rail to jacks abby is doable, but not worth it when you can find most of their beers at any decent liquor store. I especially dont think you should go down to Canton for Trillium when you can easily take the silver line over to their Fort Point location.

As for recommendations, i think Lamplighter is pretty close to cambridge brewing so you could do those together. Bone Up brewing is right next to Night Shift, and they have a nice little taproom. Mystic is kind of close to that as well, if you like walking. They have good stuff, but you can also typically find their stuff in a good beer store as well.

Lulus in allston and 5 horses in Davis usually have Trillium on tap. Both have pretty great draft lists beyond Trillium. I would hit either one over Sunset.

Mystic Brewery is worth checking out. they have been making some awesome IPA's. Lamplighter is a must as well IMO.

Might as well go to the Trillium Ft. Point location and get some cans, you might also find them on tap at Row 34 next door.

Also if you are staying at the airport why not rent a car for a day? I rent from the airport usually and can find cars for as cheap as $8-10 for the day (not including fees and such). If you have a car you can head out to Jacks Abby/Springdale as well as Exhibit A.

Public transit to Framingham is a pain but it can be done; public transit to Trillium's Canton location is basically impossible. Rent a car. Beyond what you've already listed, definitely go to Lamplighter, Winter Hill, Idle Hands, and Mystic.

Don't bother with Trillium Canton. Jack's Abby would be slightly more worth the trip since their food is great but it's not like you'll have any shortage of great food in downtown Boston.

Idle Hands is a nice spot and you can get there on the orange line. Worth the trip if you're into traditional lagers and Belgian stuff.

I think the Row 34 (warm buttered lobster roll plus great beers) and Trillium next door combo is a must. The Publick House has had 3-4 Trillium beers on every time I've been there and is a great bar in my opinion

I took the train out to Jack's Abby last fall on a carless Boston trip and found it worth my while. The food was great and their tap list is extensive with many pour sizes from small to large. Now, it's even better because their sister brewery Springdale is right next door and they have an awesome beer hall with arcade games and great IPAs.

I've done the train to Jacks Abby and its not bad. Its more worth the trip now that Springdale and Exhibit A are also there. I'd have that as a backup plan for sunday afternoon in case you are running low on must do things in Boston.

I don't think of Lower Depths as a destination worthy beer bar. Its super expensive with small pours. Its in the Fenway area which is one of the best spots to bar hop around. The Sox are in town that weekend which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what kind of scene you want.

If your destination is downtown or Cambridge you can take the Silver Line from the airport for free to South Station(Trillium is near there) and then get off there or transfer for free onto the Red Line. Or you can take the Blue Line from the airport. Ginger Man is a great beer bar by the Aquarium stop.

A little insider baseball here. Eataly has Trillium's Permutation 3 in it's unique barrel program upstairs in Terra. And it's glorious

Trillium will let you buy any combination and quantity of cans.

That may make it easier to get a good sampling of their beers. Of course then you'd have to drink them at your hotel.

Five Horses South End had a couple Trilliums on tap as of yesterday.

I really appreciate all of the input from you guys; really looking forward to making it up there and experiencing the Boston beer scene. Although slightly unrelated, any tips on using public transit to get to some of these places? The MBTA is kind of dizzying.

Honestly, I think just using Google Maps and choosing the public transit option will get u most of the info you need.

For the subway, inbound is towards the square of intersecting subway lines (ex. Park St stop) on this map and outbound is away from it:

Your airport hotel should have a shuttle to either the Blue Line stop called Airport or to a terminal where you could get on the Silver Line which will take you to south station on the Red Line for free. Once on the red line you can take that to Cambridge, or transfer to the green line for Lower Depths, Sunset, Publick House, etc. Breweries like Idle Hands and Night Shift are walkable from the Orange Line. You can transfer to both of those lines from the red line at Downtown Crossing. Ask for a plastic Charlie Card at stations like Downtown Crossing. Its cheaper than using the paper Charlie Tickets.
For the train to Jacks Abby you would get on the train to Framingham at South Station or Back Bay. Check the schedule here and input the day you want to go:

Boston is a walkable city. If you take the Silver Line from the airport to South Station then Trillium is quite close. They are opening up a Trillium beer garden near South Station any day now. They are posting updates to Instagram. Downtown, South End, North End, Chinatown, Back Bay are all within walking distance from here.

What about a visit to Night Shift? Worth it?

No. Not with the other options you have.

Respectfully disagree. Assuming the OP doesn't mind a cheap Uber Pool ride, Nigh Shift has one of the coolest taprooms around, and there are literally dozens of beers to choose from on most days. I'd take Night Shift over Slumbrew and any of the bars mentioned in the original post.

Well right now their tap list is almost all ipas with the exception of their coffee stout I've already had. Not very exciting.
