ST still has a solid 4-5 months, or how ever long it'll take till Wes is happy with it to develop before release. So, it has a bit more ways to go but that preview tasting had all the makings of a great beer.

Only one way to find out big boy

I was there last night and this is the first time where low fill bottles were still available past 7pm and it was completely dead! Unsure of the real reasons why but someone told me there was monkish crap going on so maybe thats why but anyhoo...

In my typical sarcastic way of replying what this beer is, I would call it a BA cough syrup stout. The cherries give off a nice tart finish but because its cherries rather than another type of fruit, it almost tastes a bit medicinal on the end which is minimal but at the same time I would agree its like having chocolate dipped cherries too. Port is there but not overly so heavy that you feel like you're drinking BT Port. Id say its worth getting as Ive never had a bad BL beer but I do think this beer needs a year to open up and maybe have the cherry finish fade off, but then again it could be a good thing or bad depending on how you like port stouts.

    Hope that helps! :grimacing:

Anyone know if there are still any low pour fills left to try at opening tonight?

Ok sooooooo, space trace smells and tastes great. BUT, could always use more coconut. The backwards compatibility is a let down to me. I was hoping for more of a choco covered cherries thing. Super bummed about it. Not enough cherries at all.

Be careful what you wish for--more coconut often turns into sun tan lotion.

It needs a lil sun tan lotion then.

I’ve never had a beer with too much coconut - fully understanding they might be out there, but doubting I’d think, “Hmmm, this tastes like my Hawaiian tropic sunscreen/tanning oil.” Reason? First and foremost, drinking sunscreen doesn’t appeal to me. Are we assuming that the only way to get that bold coconut flavor is artificial coconut additives? And maybe that IS the only way...I have zero clue. I’d just echo my man’s sentiments above - bury me in coconut, please.

That was easy for Backwards Compatibility.

Wow, I'm surprised to not see those annoying BA comments, "well that was easy," or "wow, it didn't sell out? People must have slept on this. That or they must have amped up production."

Hey man, just acknowledging that it was easy. My intention wasn't to annoy you:wink:

I had totally forgot then at 12:30 I went to eventbrite and started F5ing. After a few tries I was able to make two separate orders for one bottle each.

Tried Backward Compatibility on Friday night. Really happy to try a low bottle pour since this was one of the very few BL stasis beers that just wasn't for me. The tart cherries just didn't mesh well with my palette and overall the girlfriend and I both thought that it tasted a bit medicinal especially as it warmed up. The beer wasn't bad by any means but with so many great BL beers on the horizon it was nice to sit this one out and put my money towards another BL beer that I'll love.

Space Trace was delicious and there's no doubt that I'll be maxing it out assuming I can score on the release. Random props to the BL staff on Friday night. There was a crazy obnoxious beer tour group that had was obviously 10 steps past drunk. The BL crew did the best they could to quiet the group, it was evident that the drunken behavior wasn't welcome in the tasting room. They left shortly after on the fancy drunk bus

Long story short, this one isn't for me but I'll continue to visit and purchase most BL products because of the kick ass staff and beers. Can't love them all I suppose.

Yeah this beer really had a bit of a cough syrup taste which was kind of what I predicted from the description. I think others had the same thought as well which is why I think this one didn’t sell out instantly as their other releases. I think this bottle is going to be one of those love it or hate it beers.

I didn't get any cough syrup taste, was very well balanced in my opinion. I enjoyed it, but I can see how it might be polarizing. Glad that this was slept on because it'll make it easier in the future to get more bottles.

It's times like this you wish they'd never started putting fruit flavors in medicine in the first place, amirite?
