They also just got bottles of SHE SHOT FIRST and DOUBLE ACTUATOR for sale. The bottle art alone is worth picking one up. It's damn sexy.

After visiting Bottle Logic I excited to learn about a couple of awesome projects that are coming up. They are planning on releasing a Makers Mark Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout with an ABV of 15-ish%. In a seperate project they spiked barrels with yeast/bacteria from emptied bottles of Fou' Fonne, Duck Duck Gooze, Lou Pepe, and Tequilin Gueuze and they will blend those barrels in about 6-9 months.

Mostly in agreement here, although I made my first visit to Valiant it was very "meh." The Jericho IPA they served from bottles was one of the worst IPA's I've had in a while. Mix of super cloying floral and oxidation flavor.

TAPS is where I would spend most of my money bar farrrrr, if I live a little north/inland.

That's good to know. I haven't made it by there yet but will bring a blank with me in case something grabs me.

Double Actuator is killin it. Maybe a touch sweet, but huge hop flavor/aroma.

The space is awesome and everyone is really cool. Coolest glassware too.

    Pricing for fills? Glassware? Bombers?

Glasses were under $5 I think. Bombers were $9 for double actuator? Not sure on fills, since they weren't filling anything I wanted. Growler fills sound like they'll be limited for a while.

You can keep the beaker glass for $3 more than the pour and yeah, She Shot First was $6 and Double Actuator was $9

    No clue on growler fills.

Seaward Pale Ale for sure (single hop pale ale, last one I had was their Centennial version.... delicious). I enjoy the IPA, it's one of the better ones north of Escondido and outside of Beachwood. Cali Gold XPA is always hoppy and delicious. Those are the ones I would go for if their website is current. But they really a great job nailing almost every style.

As MiScusi said, everything is very good. I stopped in yesterday, and with the current warming trend I'd recommend the Saison, Alt and their Witbier aged in a Conundrum barrel. YMMV

$9 for bottle of D Actuator? I thought $9 was high for Citra & Nelson Showers. D Actuator was good but not for nine a bottle. I think it was around 14-17 for a growler fill of D Actuator. Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe the bottle itself is worth $3 and the beer inside is worth $6. It is a cool looking bottle. But I'm not drinking the label. Maybe I should stop complaining about BBBQ&B's bottle prices. :astonished:

Pretty sure they are trying to price competitively, why would they want to sell the beer at $6 when most Dipas are being sold on average for $9? Sure it's a great price but it also lowers the image of the company to an extent. Also, who's to say it wasn't expensive to brew?

You also have to keep in mind that they are a new brewery and have to toy with key-stoning their products. Honestly, I don't think $9 is that crazy in the beer market of today.

Except when Hop Stoopid can be had for $4.50/bomber and is just as good if not better. I know...economies of scale and hop extract.

Yeah prices will only go up for bigger DIPAs. The small breweries are putting out high alcohol beers(double actuator is 9% i think) and dry hopping the bujeezus out of them. That shit is expensive. I don't expect them to compete in price with Stone or Lagunitas. I do however expect them to charge a couple bucks less for a 7% IPA, if they were to release one.

As far as growler fills, when were they offering fills with double actuator? I'd get one in a heartbeat!

I agree with the DIPA's being a bigger beer. And I don't know what went into this beer and how long it took to brew. But there are so many better IPA/DIPA's out there that cost less. Actuator is a good dipa. Not great, IMO. I'm just saying that I would not go out and pay 9 or 10 for Actuator when I can get a better beer for less $$'s. There are alot of new brewery's thats opening up these days thats trying to make a name for themselves. Maybe they need to concentrate on the beers more than the tasting room. Not saying thats the case with Bottle Logic. They have a awesome tasting room and some good beers. And I'm sure their beers will get even better as the years go by. I still make my Alpine and Kern road trips to pick up some great beers. And know we have BBBQ&B, Smog, ESBC, Noble and a few others in the area that are putting out some of the best in the west. With all the new brewery's that has opened up recently and the ones thats getting ready to open soon they have some competition. A few will crash and burn out, most will be okay and a few will flourish in this growing industry. HB will have its first microbrewery soon and I am hoping this one will be another go to stop for me. Time will tell.

Right, but what relatively small(under 30bbl brewery) is putting out ~9% abv super hoppy brew for much less? The only ones I can think of are ESBC(not that much less), Alpine and Kern. Kern has admitted that Citra is not a money maker for them. Pure Hoppiness is 7 or 8 bucks? El Segundo's Hop Tanker is $8?

I may be forgetting some small San Diego breweries, but I don't buy much from Mother Earth, Saint archer, etc.

PH at the source is sub $6. The worst offender is Strand and their $9 500mL bottles of the IIPA, those things can't move worth a damn.
