Bottle Logic Brewing Thread - Spring 2017

Well if it wasn't they should have stated that because both their social media posts and the signs they posted at the Stasis beer station literally stated "Imperial Vanilla Stout aged in apple brandy (Calvados) barrels". Doesn't change my opinion of the beer, definitely one of the weaker Stasis releases during the week.

 

It def wasn't my fav, but as it warmed, it actually became a chocolate apple which was much more pleasant than drinking chilled. Vanilla was still absent unfortunately.

 

Not starting a rumor or anything, but just opened Byzantine Vision; had it on tap before and it tastes nothing like it does right now.

Is it infected? Smells like a sour and a little over carbonated.

 

I had a bottle a couple weeks ago and it tasted nothing like it did on tap. It wasn't sour though just not as over the top nutty

Drank a bottle on February 12th and it was tasting great. Enjoyed out of the bottle more than on tap.

 

Drain pour for all 5 people here, disappointment.

 

Came here to ask the same thing. First drank a bottle Feb 27th and me and 2 friends all thought it was amazing. Tons of sweetness from the honey. We all agreed that is was like liquid baklava.

Had a bottle of this Wednesday with one of my friends and we both agreed it was awful. Thin and had a weird sour cherry flavor coming through with none of the outstanding flavors of honey or the nuts from before. Is this stuff infected?

I have to think if all bottles aren't bad they will be very soon. The tell tale thinning and sour cherry flavor usually screams infected.

 

I keep reading your post over and over, and don't see anything that leads me to believe there was anything wrong with your bottle. It was BV, so sounds par for the course.

A little too much going on, the flavors were not complimentary IMO.

 

Was it suppose to taste like a muddy soda? I remember on tap tasting an abundance of nuts and great mouthfeel.

When drain poured a sound like alka- seltzer hung on the sink for a few seconds so I'm sure that it was infected.

 

+1, hopefully this isn't an entire batch issue. Interested to see how these came along in a few months.

 

I have a disposal unit aka my truck if you guys want to rid of your Byzantine beers.

 

Just cracked one. Not terrible, but doesn't taste like I've heard it described. Might be the start of something.

 

Just opened a bottle. Identical result. Nothing like the two pours I had on tap, or the first two bottles that I opened right after I got them. Very carbed, slightly tart cherry taste, more so on the nose. Not good.

 

Hey guys. Just want to say my bottle is definitely infected. I have not had this one yet, but on first sniff I could tell something was wrong. Had a slight tart undertone that I have come in contact with before on a stone BA stout. First sip was the nail in the coffin. Huge carbonation and tart fruit, along with an off putting funky leather. Finding this thread is just more confirmation that this is indeed infected. Such a bummer as this isnt a cheap beer and hard to come by.

 

I have opened 1 bottle. Was not the same as on tap but didn't get an infected flavor. Hope it isn't infected, and if it is that BL takes care of it.

 

I'm telling you guys. Byzantine was just not good.
