I'm also curious to know. I just can't imagine that your run of the mill hazy IPA with Citra and Mosaic would cost $18/4pack while the same west coast IPA with Citra and Mosaic would be anywhere from $10-14.
Also, does it really make a difference what hop bill is used? Because I am able to taste a much larger degree of difference in flavor between west coast IPAs than I can with these hazy IPAs. Most of them seem to pretty much taste the same to me.

I hear you. I just don't see why people who are posting on BA for hours each day, standing in line for hours for special releases, drinking trade beers that cost twice retail once shipping is factored in, paying BPT fees, etc., are quibbling over pennies per oz. Or why they're buying BL beers in the first place.

Agreed. It's true that there's nothing economical about this hobby. Personally, I've eliminated some of the most wasteful and expensive elements such as standing in line for hours and trading. If I could somehow set a price threshold I'm unwilling to cross 100% of the time, I'd be happy with myself but my ticker tendencies gets the best of me sometimes--bought a BL Dark Wanderer from K&L the other week.

I believe this is directed at me, if not then I apologize. I have never shipped beer anywhere for a trade because that adds cost to the beer. I also have not stood in line since probably December 2013, for a Beautification and had to leave shut out because I didn't have 6 hours to wait. I get prices of barrel aged beer because there is a lot of time and additional stuff that goes into them, but IPA's take weeks to make and are relatively cheap to produce when comparing them to barrel aged beers.

Nah, not directed at anyone. Just making sweeping generalizations while drinking. :grinning:

    Not that complicated

ABV = Strength I am in the mood for. ( general formula: lower on weeknights, higher on weekend )

OZ: 375ml, 12oz, 16oz, 500ml if I in the mood for one., and how big of a one.

22oz, 750ml if I in the mood for more than one.

$$$: Something I can afford, after mortgage/rent and bills are paid, work is done, family is taken care of,.

Sweet spot: Enjoying a great beer without thinking about price per ounce.

Actually read all those complaints...great entertainment!

I agree with all the comments of those that love the idea of an online sale. Hope others follow suit soon!

My question is, what are the chances of BL strucking a HR on their first shot?
I haven't had all of their IPAs, but I don't think I had an IPA from them thinking it's excellent. Or is everyone thinking of trading their cans for TH ?

This latest batch of hazeshift is definitely the best so far in my opinion. I'm sure these cans will sellout in seconds.

I'm holding out hope that they can berlinear equation batches, but I guess I'll have to make do with growlers till that happens.

Kings brewing in rancho charges $20 a 4pak out the door.

That would be awesome if they start canning their Berlinear styles. My wife loves it, but doesn't want a full growler of them.

I'm not necessarily buying that these hazy IPA's cost that much more to produce. I'm willing to listen to someone explain why...but if we're to believe the main difference is a northeastern yeast strain that simply doesn't floc? Yeah not buying it. Also, aren't the MT cans sleeved? Basically, blank can, plastic sleeves, heat shrinking. In his post, Jacob from MT mentioned that those cans are 4x as much. I'd be curious if he's calculating the cost of the equipment that applies and shrinks those sleeves into that 4x claim.

So I came here for Bottle Logic news and got all this shit about costs of 4-packs of cans. What the hell?

Hops aren't cheap, and these are usually dry hopped a lot for aromatics and fruity flavors. Small run of unique cans with sleeves probably less cost effective as a large order of their other cans.

Bottom line if you don't want to buy them, don't.

Homebrewing NE IPAs is an expensive process. Mostly just the hops and (fruit if used). For me a regular IPA might be 4oz of hops in a 5 gallon batch of cheaper hops (Centennial), but a NE style, I often use 16oz+ in 5 gallons to get that amazing OJ color and flavor (with more expensive hops such as Mosaic).

Just in hops alone you are looking at 4x cost, and thats without fruit which is usually about 2x the price of hops per quantity used.

A 5 gallon batch of something like a strawberry milkshake IPA which is delicious, is about $80 in ingredients with reusing yeast, and that's without labor. A Two Hearted clone, would be about $25 for a 5 gallon batch.

All this chatter about the cost of this can and the cost of that bottle. The most I've spent on any beer is $30 for Black Tuesday. And I still haven't opened up my 2 2015 bottles. Sure I've tried a lot of the crazy hazy beers these days. I may have been one of the first ones from Cali that had OH Green Diamonds almost a year before it was released in cans for trading. And I said here that I would put GD up against any of the west coast ipa's at the time. This was almost 3 years ago.
I know what I like........IPA's. And stouts. But IPA's are always my go to first. I know what styles of IPA's I like. So no need to go out and spend outrageous amounts of $$$'s for something I have no clue if I'm going to enjoy. I've had most of the crazy hazy stuff that's out there. Did almost 1 1/2 years of trading for those types of beers. So I did spend a little more than I'd like to for IPA's (shipping cost). I'm done with that scene. I had OH's Green Diamond on draft in Manhattan almost a year before it was released in cans for all those who bought them for trading. I now will fly to the source if I want to try a beer. Yes that cost more $$$'s than trading. But I fly for free > bonus. I will spend between $400-600 for IPA's (some stouts) in a month. That's already a lot of $'s. So I will not spend extra $$'s for extra crap that I don't really know if I'm going to enjoy. Not into the sours. Not into the super hard to get cans or bottles that everybody is after. What I have in my fridge is simple and I like. Just give me the regular IPA's like Booming Rollers, JO, Breaking Bud (when fresh in cans), anything Beachwood, ESBC, Noble and a few others and I'm a happy camper. Sure those places put out newer and sometimes better IPA's I'd like to try. But I'm not going out of way and pay high $$'s for it just because they can put a high $$ tag on it.

Sorry for the babbling, ranting and raving here. I just had to put it out there. :grinning:

It's ok to think something is too expensive. Everyone has a limit, just because something is under your limit doesn't mean another person is being unreasonable if it is above their limit.

Constant bitching and moaning about price gets annoying, but it's ok to make an observation. It's like fucking political correctness is infiltrating craft beer.
