Some are complaining about that. Cuz you know, nobody in the West ever goes to DLD, or to HF to grab limited bottles.

I get that but how do you compare a small dinner to DLD?

Wonder what the story is. Did you, b.o.b., beat all odds and score that one-in-thousands ticket or did you make a deal?

Pls don't reply. The stupid factor is already high enough around here, especially with those crazy Facebookians. Just curious. If you did beat the odds and are traveling from New Hampshire for the, ahem, dinner, that's a pretty good tale to tell the grandkids. :grinning:

If your first trip to CA consists of two days of beer drinking in SoCal, you're doing it wrong. We have oceans, mountains, lakes. Just an FYI.

Not to mention amazing food, and I'm not talking about burgers and nachos (both of which I enjoy eating).

I did. It was a pretty solid and interesting meal. Buying bottles were a secondary thing. This time around I'm pretty sure the majority who are going are there for the purpose of the bottles and not the meal.

Was it casual or fancy/dress code? While the allotment is a cool perk, I'm interested in checking out the food pairings/experience and wouldn't have paid for a ticket if it was only for extra bottles.

A two day beer and burrito tour sounds great.

I wouldn't be too excited about being in an enclosed plane with b.o.b and friend on the ride back to New Hampshire, tho. Phew.

Didn't find regular Hazeshift to be particularly inspiring. Maybe the imperial-ness will take it next level.

I'm curious how many people would be going if they were not able to buy bottles at the event, or limited to only 1 or 2 bottles (for the same $140 price).

On FB they said they were debating about making the next (or a future) dinner a lottery system, which I think might be a good idea (assuming lottery board officials, police, disinterested third parties, and an accounting firm are present for the drawing so no one accuses them of cheating/rigging). Although if they truly want to keep everything to the loyal locals, they should probably require that you actually show up at the tasting room to register instead of doing an online thing where anyone from here to Timbuktu can sign up.

As for me with the dinner, I'm SUPER bummed I didn't get it and Event Brite is my absolute least favorite site for ticket buying, but I won't/can't blame BL for putting on a very popular event and me not being fast enough. It is what it is and just allows me to save money for the next bottle purchase (FF, Jam the Radar, and DSN variants please!!!).

I will however request that they, or anyone who is going to the dinner, please post pics of the food/drink and event in general. I'd like to live vicariously if possible, even if I'm a tad bit envious.

I don't see how a lotto system helps any, to be honest.

Those saying the dinner wouldn't have sold out without the ability to purchase bottles? I don't know about that. Last year the previous bottles such as Darkstar November sat on the shelf for a long time leading up to Fundamental Observation release and so I don't think there was all that big incentive to buy tickets to the dinner based on ability to purchase the bottles. Hell, I bought tickets because I wanted to try the food pairing and it sounded fun. I had asked so many people leading up to the event that if they wanted me to pick up a bottle for them and no one took me up on it saying that the previous bottles were shelf warmers and they'll get it when it comes out. At the dinner there was only 2-3 folks that got more than a modest amount. One guy with either 6-9 cases for their beer group. But most people were only buying a couple of bottles or a case or so.

It still sold out even though the bottle purchase wasn't the main goal. I can't remember if it was in a few days or, like a week. But still, it sold out.

My recommendation for future dinners. Cut the allocation. I'm a broken record here, but there's really no incentive to give folks the ability to buy a case of the beer. Cut it down to 4-6 and you'll see the amount of black market sells get curbed a good amount.

    Pretty easy answer right there.

It's possible that the dinner would sell out without the bottle-purchase component, but you'd have a different group attending. You'd have a mixed group of curious locals, family, and friends.
