I thought there was way more nilla in the bottle from the one I had last weekend vs on draft at the OC Brewer's Guild event. The sweetness was almost overwhelming. Almost..

I wonder how much the hype would die down if they just produced more of the stuff. I expect it would taste just as good (unless the hype is altering your sensory experience) and then they would also make a boat load of more money. IMHO the only people to be impacted by that would be the traders (slightly, distribution may not change so it would still have good trade value) and re-sellers (more supply, less demand).

Well, they already scaled up production from B1 to B2 and fresh B2 is better than B1 was fresh, so there's that.

I think they had 9-10k bottles this year? Up from 4200 or so last year? That's a pretty big increase for a brewery the size of Bottle Logic. I'm sure next year the amount will go up as well.

    I appreciate your comments.
Why would you say b2 was better than b1 fresh? I agree it's hard to remember a year ago. Palate changes, etc...

I'll jump in if I may. In my personal opinion, I thought b2 was more integrated than b1 out of the gate. B1 had more of this extreme or artificial vanilla flavor to it. It also had a lot of barrel/oak on it. Eventually b1 settled down and turned into an awesome balanced stout. B2 seems like it's almost there already. Both are very good but different out of the gate. Looking forward to seeing how b2 ages.

Has anyone had the new batch of Haze Shift? How's it tasting? I imagine they iterated on the recipe a bit for batch 2.

Drinking it tonight. Loving it! I believe its better than B1.

Ninja edit: I wouldn't be surprised if they touched up on the recipe a bit. It's got more pineapple juiciness and definitely more hazy.

I think this batch is so much better than b1. I agree, much more of a "juice" profile this go around.

BL had an additional year between '15 and '16 to really fine tune the art of blending. They really showed off their chops with Leche Borracho. Not a lot of folks out there mixing tequila and bourbon barrels and having it come out so smooth.

I'm not a member of any brewery's club, but if BL opens one, look for my ass to be in line to sign up.

Not exactly a club, but I sure hope T3 will get priority access to an actual, future club.

Sorry, I wasn't at a computer this weekend. To answer your question though - I think FO B1 fresh (from my notes) was almost purely a vanilla bomb with a small amount of barrel character. As it aged, the vanilla got subdued and it balanced out, but fresh it was almost pure vanilla.

This batch tastes more refined. I think they blended 11 barrels total together? That's a pretty impressive feat, especially for something as balanced as this.

Yeah, the lack of barrel was what put VR ahead of it for me. Enjoying b2 more so far. Have yet to try it out of the bottle.

That is likely why I also preferred VR over FO b1. I felt the rye married well with the vanilla. b2 out of the bottle you will enjoy since even I thought it was good (not great but quite tasty).
