I also have a can of "JR Ewing's Private Stock"! Is yours oddly unopened like mine is?

No, somebody had the courage to drink that before it was given to me. If l recall, Pearl Brewing wasn't too great.

My father came across an unopened can of the stuff while cleaning out my Grandfathers garage (he was a bit of a pack rat, no idea why he would have a sealed can of beer buried in there :grinning:) and graciously gave it to me. I have no idea of when it was brewed, although I assume that it was in the 80's, explaining why I didn't dare give it a try!

I'll bet he thought it would be a collector's item. I'm not sure how old you are or if you'd remember the t.v. show 'Dallas' or not, but JR was a character on it. Right around then, the collecting bug really hit America and "collector's Editions" of everything were everywhere. (I think Star Wars was a big part.) The show was on from 1978 to 1991, but it's heyday was certainly the early '80s. This is the only can design l've ever seen and is from 1980.

Dallas was a little before my time but I do remember watching re-runs when I was a young lad. My can looks identical, so I would say that my assumption is that it's also from 1980.

    Thanks for the info!

I LOVE this idea, but the only issue I have with it is my Stone bottles. I have some really cool ones like the Enjoy By IPA that I unfortunately cannot take the labels off because the label is printed right on the bottle :/

I just saw Arrogant Bastard yesterday with plastic labels! I cried a little.

I may be the king of collecting empty bottles. I have a wall in my house made of bottles, and four totes of bottles in storage (not counting bottles saved for homebrew) that will one day become a beer shrine. There are several hundred bottles/cans total, all different beers I have had, and a few old ones going all the way back to before pop-tops like Carling Black Label, Schlitz, and old Budweiser cans and bottles (some unopened). Plan is that when the wife and I build the house we're going to put in a small bar with homebrew on tap and the walls will be lined with bottles. I also have a significant portion of the bottle caps I've ever removed from a bottle, I'd venture to guess that there's a few thousand caps in the box, which will hopefully become the floor sealed in with epoxy. If you do keep bottles makes sure you rinse and dry them, especially anything bottle conditioned.

There are cool chandelier kits that hold big bottles. I've saved up two cases' worth of painted-label bottles -including many Stone bottles, of course. I haven't decided to buy or make one, yet...

Hoppy, see post #53 on page #2 above. I'm not trying to create any competition here, but you're way behind.

SirBottlecap, if you have access to some kind of a kit, you're probably better off than trying to create a design yourself. Mine shown here was my own creation, and it leaves a lot to be desired. I used a string of holiday lights that just aren't bright enough to get the intensity that I hoped to get, and had too many lights on the string so that I had to leave about a dozen lights laying on the top of the light. (Ugly!)

That's a great collection, I'll make it there eventually (I've only got 4 years under my belt two of which I spent without drinking anything). My collection has a condition that I have to drink the beer (or try it decide it's gross and pawn it off on someone else to finish) before it can go in. I haven't started on any of the European imports, but if we keep getting new craft breweries making a million varieties, I'm going to have start drinking an extra beer every night :stuck_out_tongue:.

    (Love the ceiling idea BTW)

I also drink everything in the bottles that I've collected except for 3-4 old beers that I've picked up at various places. The 'ceiling idea' is just the heat ducts that run thru my basement man cave. There is somewhere around 3,000 magnet caps stuck there. (However, I did not necessarily drink every one of those beers that produced those caps.)

I like the layout of your light, though. I might try something like that, but try to get some REALLY bright LEDS and wire 'em in myself. I'm not sure how yours are attached to the bottles, but what if you stuffed two or three lights into each bottle? Also, maybe try bottles that have painted or clear plastic labels for more effect?

I do have 4-5 LED lights inside each 22-oz. bottle, plus 8-10 of them inside the growler that is in the center position. And you're right that bottles with painted or clear labels would help with the light intensity. Those bombers have large labels and they block a lot of the light.

I have my 'wall of fame' down in my man case on which I have a shelf containing my top 35 beer bottles/cans (combo of favorite beers + artwork).... otherwise:
