I am hosting a small (4 people, 4 bomber) bottle share with beers I haven't tried before and was wanting input on order of beers and reasons for that order. These are the four beers we will be sampling: Pipeworks Orange Truffle Abduction, 2013 Speedway Stout, 2013 Parbola, 2011 Older Viscosity. Thanks in advance for the help.
If it is only 4 bottles, so why wouldn't you open all 4 and get 4 glassware each and take sips from each one after the other to get a real tasting so none of the beers gets the "my palate is wrecked" neglect. Plus they are stouts so warming up is not an issue.
In general, non flavored first, then fruity/coffee/chocolate, BA offerings last. Granted ABV should be considered too
Great idea for an inside, around a table, kind of tasting. Weather permitting, we will be around a fire pit outdoors. I think four glasses would be too much to keep track of.
Yeah, that didn't come out quite right. Four people sitting around a fire with four glasses each doesn't seem as practical as enjoying one bottle at a time.
Now that makes sense. Since you're winging the setting, just wing the order based on a consensus when you're together. It's beer, there's really no way of doing it wrong. Cheers
this is what I usually do with my smaller bottle shares. and would suggest you do the same. in May I did this with 2011 Older Viscosity, 2013 CCB Hanuphu, Speedway Kopi luwak and some others. 2011 Older Viscosity was hands down the best of the bunch. Enjoy!
I haven't had OTA, but I'll second above: Speedway (coffee flavors will be less pronounced than the flavors in OTA, presumably) OTA OV (Barrel isn't anywhere near as pronounced as fresh Parabola) Parabola (You have to save best for last)
With those four beers I do not think order is very important at all. Just provide some snacks and water in between and you'll be fine. It's only when you get into the large tastings with many different styles/abvs when order matter in my experience.
