Wanted to hear everyone's opinion on the order beers (by style) at your bottle shares? Or do you typically stick to one style at your bottle shares?

We usually try to stick to the same or similar styles. It's just easier that way. Typically you want to go lightest to darkest though. It's all about how intense the beer is going to be on your palate. You don't want to kill your palate with the first beer.

If you go with general bottles you should try to preserve palate. Lambics, golden, pales, choppy, porters, stouts and barrel aged. Not binding, but it would be hard to appreciate a delicate geuze after drinking a bourbon barrel aged stout.

It really doesn't matter. You can't really plan how your palate is going to feel either. Just open whatever sounds good next. The only time I ever planned the order in advance was when we opened close to 200 Bruery beers in a row.

My big concern is the group I am putting together loves big DIPA's, sours, Barrel Aged Stouts. I don;t know how to line them up.

That is a very difficult line-up. Usually you want to do big DIPA's or BA stouts last because they will hang on the palate for a long time. You will want to find some way to really cleanse your palate in between, but I would say start with the sours, then move onto the IPAs, and end with the stouts. My recommendations for palate cleansers would be cheese and crackers or a great one is apple slices.

There is no harm in just taking time or a break between drinks to rest... so consider that.. and some dry neutral crackers also help too.

I am having a pretty good size bottle share with my drinking buddy Monday. We are drinking more bottles than usual. My question is in what order should I drink the styles so as not to mess up my palate during the share?. We will have 2 IPAS(one black), 2 stouts(one with orange) and probably 2 or 3 sours...Any help would be appreciated. Last time we did all of the sours first and when we got to the stouts and porters, they seemed way to sweet...Thanks, and Cheers !!

Drink them in the order you want to drink them.

During bottle shares, I don't wanna contrast flavours too much, beer to beer. I'd start with a sour, then the IPA, the black IPA, the orange stout then the other stout and finish with another sour. Cheers!

Drink the beers you really want to enjoy, first. Because the beers at the end won't be memorable.

I like starting with stouts because of their texture. Sours aren't quite as epic once you are a little intoxicated.

We normally use the sours as palate cleansers between stouts and we always try to end the session with something big & delicious so the tasting ends on a high note.

As stated above, drink whatever you're most excited about or put the most effort/money into obtaining first.

I'd start with the lowest ABV and work my way up.

Learn from my mistakes...don't wait to drink the good shit. I've done too many shares where we hold the good stuff until the end, and guess what? It's not as good as it could be. Between getting buzzed, full and your taste buds getting muddled, you lose the umph.

Couple of weeks ago, a buddy held back a 2012 Darkness, that I've been coveting for a long time now. It was the last beer of the night. I remember taking about 3 sips and then I was done because I was getting pretty buzzed.

This past weekend, another dude brought a See the Stars. I insisted we open it around 4-5 beers in. It was magical.

Another thing you can do is not do the same style back to back, if you can. If you drink an amazing BA stout and then follow it up with a good BA stout, that good one ends up being so so.

The advice that someone gave me is to start with the best beers that you have. By the end of the night, you may not remember the rest. I think that is good advice.
