Another thing to consider is if there are some non-beer palate cleansers you could drink in between rounds. Would also agree with drinking your #1 beer first. Maybe also alternate between heavy and lighter beers to create more contrast between the beers you are tasting.

That Prairie Flare isn't nearly as sour or salty as your typical Gose, it's actually kind of sweet. Also, isn't the "Oak Smoked Imperial Wheat Stout" the Stillwater Surround?

This totally won't be helpful but I'm wondering which stout is it that has orange in it? Reminds me of a firkin that Brooklyn Brewery did called Orange is the New Black Ops

Whatever order you drink them in, drink plenty of water and eat palate cleansing snacks in between each beer. They will help a ton in making sure you enjoy everything, instead of ending up with a bombed palate.

This ... because a good sour destroys your palate, eats every last residual flavor on it and can completely ruin any chance of tasting anything after it.

Also, lots and lots of water and unsalted peanuts between beers. Some say unsalted crackers work better, so have some of them around, too.

(the stout-sour-IPA flowchart is also good, but if you think one of the IPAs might be an award winner, I'd suggest drinking it before any sours)

Have fun with it ... and let us know how it goes!

if you eat a little something between beers, that will help. Some bread with olive oil or crackers works well. Just use low salt crackers.

keep some water handy. Just cleanse after each beer. Plus one on eating something as well.

So i go to several shares a month and we got into a drunk discussion about what order you should open beers in... while some said just open whatever you want to, there was a general consensus in this order.

Keep in mind, we generally have food at these shares but ew do this order with or without food...

    Sours and lambics

other stuff like brown ales, wheat beers, basically less popular styles with snacks like cheese and charcuterie

    pa/ipa/dipa/tripa (while eating the entree)

stouts, porters, dessert beers, strong ales and barley wines with dessert

What is your order and why? id like to get some other thoughts on this and maybe change up the way we do things.

If just beers, least impact on the palate to strongest impact on the palate.

The "problem" with including the foods is that they are palate changers just as are the beers. But since you're mostly doing this as a social event with lots of different beers and foods, a focus on the pairings with food seems more important than the order of the beers.

I saw a youtube video from the beer temple guy once where he said you are supposed to start in the middle of the country where the beer is from and then move west to east in order for tasting. I thought he was joking, but its hard to tell with that guy. If he is serious it's one of the most ridiculous nonsense beer nerd things I have ever heard.

There is no rule... go with a group consensus there might be things people REALLY want to try so you may want to get those out of the way first... but there's no reason you have to.
