As a born and raised Bostonian now transplanted to Texas, I need some help from the locals. I'll be coming to CT the first week of June, staying at Mohegan Sun for a conference. One of the days there, I'll be driving to Boston for a Sox game (probably taking 395 to the Mass Pike and in, but open to other ideas), and I'll be flying in and out of Providence. Can anyone recommend a good place to stop to pick up good beer, either near Mohegan Sun or along the route from there to Boston? I want to smuggle some stuff home in my suitcase, since Texas can sometimes be a wasteland in terms of what gets imported here. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer! Ken
If you are comfortable navigating, in Cambridge/Somerville you have Liquor World and Downtown Wine and Spirits. Both of them have parking lots. Closer to Fenway, you have Blanchards which also has a parking lot (also is right next to Sunset if you want to grab a few pints).
If you're coming from the Sun, take 395 North all the way to the Mass Pike, head east toward Boston and make a pit stop at Julio's in Westborough on Route 9.
Thanks for the suggestions. Julio's looks pretty do-able from the Pike. What about Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont? Looks a little out of the way, but if its worth it.....
Bauer Wine and Spirits is about a 10 minute walk from Fenway. Its a small place but they have some really good stuff.
Northeast Wine and Spirits in Plainfield, CT (it's 100 yards off of 395 exit 87 about 20-25 minutes from Mohegan Sun on your way to MA). Excellent selection usually.
Alright. My plan is to hit Nikki's in Providence as I come in from the airport, Northeast Wine and Spirits some time while I'm at Mohegan Sun, and Julio's on the way to Boston. That will let me hit RI, CT and MA in one trip. Time permitting, I might try Craft Cellar as well. Then I just need to find a FedEx store.... Thanks for all the help! Ken
