The girlfriend of a friend of mine currently studies in Edinburgh and is coming home to Sweden for a visit. She surprised me by asking if there was any beer she could pick up for me as she's carrying a empty cabin trunk over here.

Drinkmonger, Provenance Wines and Nina's Mini Market are closest to her; do they have a good/ok selection of Scottish beer or should I point her to some other store?

I'm very keen on trying some new porter, stout, barley wine, scotch ale etc but also more traditional and spiced ales. All and any tips regarding beers too look for are appreciated. Would be great to get a bottle or two of Skull Splitter but otherwise I'm quite happy with whatever Scottish beers beside Brewdogs offerings (which I have access to here in Sweden) that's available.

The best beer shop I've visited in Edinburgh was Great Grog, which had a good range of Scottish microbrews and plenty of beers from foreign climes (USA, Belgium, Germany, Italy). They may have a beer list on their website http://www.greatgrog.co.uk/

I know there are other shops as well but I can't vouch for them personally. Hopefully Zimbo might chime in with up to the minute info.....

Thanks a lot for the tips, I'll check them out and pass on the info.

Without a doubt Cornelius and The Beer Hive are the best two beer bottle shops in Edinburgh. Nina's would have been an immediate recommendation as well but it's recently changed hands and I believe it's range has been drastically reduced.

If you're looking for interesting new Scottish beers Tempest, Cromarty and Luckie Ales are generally the best available.
