hey guys, i know this is very vague, but my cousin is driving through michigan at the end of the week and i want him to bring me back some beer i cannot get in florida, especially founders products. he will be around grand rapids and detroit area. can anyone suggest a store/stores that has the best selection of craft from up north? Id love to get my hands on some fresh FBS as i only have about 2 bottles left from last year. If there are any beers that are cant miss, please let me know. Thanks!
I think you best bet in Grand Rapids is Siciliano's: http://sicilianosmkt.com/v/market/ should be pretty easy to find and not too far off the major highways around town. Some new Michigan beers might you may not have tried or have access to would be from Brewey Vivant (http://www.breweryvivant.com/) if your into Belgium's at all. Of course the fall ale / pumpkin ales are coming out now too, so not sure what the reach is but Ichabod from New Holland or some of those might be good idea's for a pick up.
I agree with Siciliano's in the GR area, but you can check out this thread for bottle shop suggestions on the east side of the state. http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/fairway-sav-more-drugs-in-eastpointe-mi.39621/
Im not familiar with GR. Detroit area best bet is Champagnes in Warren, Red Wagon in Rochester and Holiday Market in Royal Oak. Honestly though you really cant shake a stick around here without hitting a bottle of Founders. Breakfast Stout should be no problem at all. As for cant miss do you like IPAs? Grab some Shorts Huma. Actually grab anything shorts you will like it. They just came out with their Oktoberfest, I tried it and didn't like it, but I'm starting to think I don't like Oktoberfest beers, so if you do YMMV. BV just release their Escoffier It says it a wild ale. Its brewed with Brett and their belgian yeast. Its interesting and pretty tasty but you not going to get that super sour brett tartness. Its more funky Belgian. I imagine in time with some age that sourness may come out more.
