Heading to visit my brother in Milwaukee over Thanksgiving weekend. I always have a great time hitting up the breweries in Milwaukee, but haven't ever really hit any bottle shops.

Any recommendations on best shops in town? Anything on the north side would be most preferable, as that is closer to where he lives, but I'm open to all recommendations. Would be looking primarily for CW Reserve's, NG Thumbprints, Tyranena Brewers Gone Wild, any Ale Asylum, and stuff I can't get here like Alesmith, Lagunitas, Dark Horse, Great Lakes, The Bruery, etc. Thanks!

I was up there just last weekend and the best stop to get everything you are interested in would be discount liqours.

Discount Liquor, Three Cellars, Consumer Beverage are all not too far from each other

Third vote for Discount Liquors. I went when I was there in mid-September and it was kind of a cluster, but they had a big selection.

I picked up an Alesmith Speedway Stout there that I loved. They also had lots of NG Berliner Weiss and Imperial Weizen, but no Wild Sour left.

Also, we ate at Rumpus Room near downtown and it had good food and great beer...including the CW BA Barleywine, which was the highlight of the night for me.

If you have just one stop, make it Discount on 51st & Oklahoma. If you've got a little extra time, Three Cellars isn't that far away. You won't find any bottles there that they don't have at Discount (unless Toppling Goliath happens to be released the day you're there) but they do have 7 often stupendous tap selections for tastings/pints.

My personal favorite is Downer Ave Spirits, but again, you won't find anything that Discount doesn't have.

Ray's in Wauwatosa is your other option, if you find yourself in that neck of the woods.

You're not going to find anything ridiculously rare in Milwaukee, except for all the Wisco-only breweries (New Glarus, Central Waters, Black Husky, Tyranena).

Rumpus Room gets the best selection of CW beers on tap. Good relationship with the brewery. Had a CW beer dinner there. Highlight was BA Barleywine. The Barrel had been used to age a cocktail followed by maple syrup followed by the barleywine for almost two years. One of my two or three all-time favorite beers.

Sugar Maple had CW rye bba stout on tap when I was there on Halloween, supposedly the only keg to leave the brewery. Such a great beer.

Nice. I don't get down to Sugar Maple enough... they always have good beers.

Definitely not the only keg, Stubby's had it on tap late last year/ early this year.

Burnheart's had it too. Really wish they would bottle it, so damn good.
