I have family that lives in New Orleans that's coming to visit in the upcoming weeks and they have made the generous offer of bringing me some beers; two weeks ago my girlfriend brought me back some Cantillon and Fantome. I know as far as sours go, the distribution to LA is better than what I get in TX, with that said, I was inquiring about some local NOLA bottle shops that have a good selection. The family I have there frequents Stein's, is there any other places worth checking out or is that going to be the best one locally? Any information will be greatly appreciated!
Steins is awesome. We also check out the Rouses and the Whole Foods (the one in Metarie is the one we've been to, a friend works at the one in NOLA and he says it's smaller).
Hey I'm in a similar situation (coming from Texas for two days to New Orleans) and plan to stop at Stein's. Just a quick question: What are some must-grab beers that I will find there that I can't find in Texas? Any styles are welcome, just want to make sure I maximize my visit. Thanks!
Welcome to Nola. Double your pleasure with my beer list. http://www.yelp.com/list/brew-ha-ha-new-orleans
new Orleans shines when it comes to very small batch , small brewery beers. We get many things from Shelton Brothers, B united and 12 percent that never make it to Texas. Look for the tiny eurpoean breweries at Stiens Deli and if you are at the Pub. There are few very small batch American brewers that haven't made it to .texas yet either that we get...like Stillwater.
If your people are up for a little road trip prior to coming out to TX, have them go to Aquistapace's in Covington. It is listed in places on BA, and has an excellent selection along with some of the best pricing you will find in the NO area. Cheers!
