I'm coming from Denver to Canton for the NFL hall of fame induction at the first of August. Just wanted to see if there were any good spots around that area. Thanks!

Drive a little outside of Canton to Hoppin Frog in Akron as thats probably the best stop around those parts. Its only about 20min from the NFL HoF if I remember correctly.

If you are looking for bottles, try the Giant Eagle Market District in Green, OH. It's maybe 10 minutes from there and they stock everything local and may have something special. It's also a grocery store, but don't let that deter you.

An Acme Fresh Market is worth trying as well, though some have better selections than others and I'm unfamiliar with the locations in that area.

Outside of those options, you are talking about 40 minutes north to Lizardville in Copley (worth the drive if you are willing).

    Good luck!

I second all of the above. There is also a Giant Eagle in Massillon that has a decent selection. It might be closer than
Green depending on where exactly you are staying. And Butts and Brews is a good shop. Lizardville could be your best bet for a good selection of ohio beers in bottle and on draft, and also awesome food. In the actual Canton area, good bars/restaurants to hit up are The Rail, Winking Lizard (same restaurant as Lizardville, just doesn't have the bottle shop), Mulligan's and my personal fav, the Irish Exchange. A lot of places sell/fill growlers now, too. The Hoppin' Frog that was mentioned is definitely worth a visit, but that is a brewery, not a bottle shop just so you know what to expect. They are awesome, though!

I live in North Canton. I'm glad people are still traveling long distances to come here.

If you go to Hoppin Frog, then you might as well hit up Thirsty Dog too. About 5 minutes apart depending on traffic. No food besides complementary popcorn and they have strange hours since it's just a small taproom. I would hit up Thirsty Dog for drinks then head over to Hoppin Frog for food and drinks. Hoppin Frog puts out some great beer, especially stouts, but their food menu has been awesome. A little pricey, but the food is definitely better than your average pub food. They turned me onto quinoa.

A lot of great recommendations. Lizardville (Copley) is definitely your best bet for the best bottle shop in the area. Please go to the Acme across the street too. They get some great stuff sometimes and it will sit there longer than a regular bottle shop since they are a grocery store. It's probably the best or 2nd best Acme store for selection and their prices are always a little bit less than Lizardville. For example, Lizardville prices Sour in the Rye/Oude Tart at $21.29 and Acme sells them at $18.99. Grocery store prices for the win. If I was you, I would hit up Acme, Lizardville, TD and HF all at once.

I would like to add a couple more options that weren't mentioned to be all inclusive. Thatsa Wrapp in Canton has good wraps if you're in the mood and a decent selection of bottles/taps to drink. Deli Ohio is an amazing fresh sandwich place in Canton, but no beer! If you have any wine people with you, Gervasi in Canton and Maize Valley in Hartville are amazing! Maize Valley just started making beer, but I don't think it's available on site outside of special tastings yet. I've been urging them to start a sour beer program with used wine barrels once they get up and running with some good flagships. Erik's Grocery Bag in North Canton is an okay bottle shop. It's close by, but not the best in case you're not able to go out of town.

I always enjoy meeting people to IP trade if you have time. I think I have some extra KBS and bbpt5 among other things if you're interested and want to shoot me a BM. Cheers!

Thanks @riemster! Very helpful. We visit this time every year as a tradition to donate to your town's economy! We actually stay in New Philly and drive back and forth although this year it looks like I'm flying into Akron so I'll try to swing by the spots you all suggested. I'm also bringing a few beers with me so that IP trade may be a possibility...

@riemster hit the nail on the head. Thirsty Dog's taproom might not in the same location in the future, so you should definitely hit it up as it has a cool, almost speakeasy feel. Their flanders red I had a few months back was amazing as well.

Also, depending on your view of a college town (although its pretty empty in Summer), Kent is also very close to Canton and has 101 bottles (a fantastic shop) and Rays Pub which is pretty college-y but manages to put some awesome stuff on their draft list pretty often.

My post from the best bottle shops in your area thread. Butts and Brews and Wales road one stop are your best best for single bottles.

Massillon/Canton, Ohio (in no particular order).
    1. Wales road one stop - good selection, most beer is stored cold and lots of singles.
    2. Butts and Brews Rt 62 Canton - great selection, singles, gets 3 Flyods.
    3. Erik's Grocery bag - Lots of singles all stored cold (watch for old beer) as a lot of it sits.
    4. Fisher Foods Fulton Road - Good selection, Growler fills, just added mix-a-six (not a lot to choose from at the moment).
    5. Meyers Lake Beverage & Drive Thru - Drive thru, but you can park and ask to look around at the beer selection. Great selection, lots of bombers and 6/4pks stored cold.
    6. Buehler's nobles pond - Grocery store with a decent selection and some singles (most singles are $2 each so a little overpriced on those).

Stores that are a bit of a drive for me, but usually worth it.
    1. 101 Bottles of beer on the wall (Kent, OH) - Largest selection in the area, Something like 20 some beers on tap can drink while you shop and get growler fills.
    2. Lizardville (Copley, OH) - Great selection, Singles of everything, Bar/Growler fills, gets the biggest allotment of limited releases.
    3. Portage lakes brewing company - Not a brewery just a store. Higher prices on everything, but can find limited releases that sell out sitting on the shelf sometimes. Just added beer on tap (no growler fills).
    4. Giant Eagle Market District (Green, OH) - Good selection, singles in a mix-a-six section.
