I'm visiting my parents in Ventura this weekend and am hoping to find some good bottle shops to go to other than BevMo. Not sure if they exist here but I figure someone here would know if they did. Thanks.

I was in Ventura a few weeks ago and i was told by the bar tender and patrons at the barrel house (craft beer bar in downtown)

    http://www.barrelhouse101.com/

that the place to go for bottles was this place:

    http://www.ojaibevco.com/

It is technically in Ojai, a short drive

I never made it as i had a plane to catch in LA and traffic and poor planning etc etc....

Thanks for the info. I don't have plans for tomorrow so hopefully I can convince the wife to head to ojai.

Ojai Beverage is good. If you're taking the time to drive out to Ojai I'd also recommend going to Boccali's for lunch http://boccalis.com/ . If you have time you could take the train up to Carpinteria and check out Island's Brewing http://www.islandbrewingcompany.com/ They are really close to the train station and you can sit and drink a few beers and take the train back home.

Barrel House is okay but not the best. I drove down from Santa Barbara once and they had a great tap list, but it isn't grouped or ordered in anyway at all, no style, brewery, or geography groupings which makes it really hard to look over all 101 beers on tap.

If you're going to make it up to Santa Barbara or Solvang and need recommendations there I know the area well.

I went to Ojai Bevco and wasn't too impressed. It had a slightly better selection than the BevMo in Ventura but with higher prices. I've been to Boccali's and Island Brewing many times and really enjoy them both. I was really just looking for a bottle shop but I think I'll just stick with BevMo when I'm up there or bring something with me in the future.

I appreciate the help, guys. Even if it didn't work out how I hoped it's still always fun to check out new places.

Helpful. I have little luck in ventura. I thought he might make a little drive. Ladyface alehouse is worth the thirty minute drive as is Draughts. Check the beer boards prior to making the drive. Draughts is having a Hangar 24 takeover Saturday so the may be some good leftovers. Sorry these spots are not in Ventura. Cheers.

Surf brewery is there, and it's been in ventura forever. It's not the best beer in the world, but I've had a few solid offerings there. They're in an industrial area, so no food but they do bring in food trucks. There is a great BBQ food truck called In The Sauce that goes there regularly (or used to). I think food trucks are there thursdays through saturday. Also, there is an incredible burrito place nearby called Santa Cruz (used to be called El Burrito Loco). Enjoy!
