I'm hoping to one day try this beer but didn't know if anyone still had some available or if they have even been traded lately. If so, what has it taken for some to get a bottle of Earl? I have also read accounts ranging from downright infected to subtle and soft but still enjoyable. Just wanted to see the status of this beer, both how difficult it would be in acquiring as well as the overall experience of the beer's flavor.

Regular Earl has never been bottled. Do you mean barrel aged Earl? I've never had an infected one. It was a ~300 bottle release in early 2011 and I wouldn't bother trading for one at this point given HF demand and the age of it.

I've never heard of any HF infection. I'm sure they've had a bad bottle or two, as everybody does, but nothing widespread to my knowledge.

Just trade for a growler of Earl when it comes back on tap.

    Yes, barrel aged Earl.

There was an overseas review posted on the other site with very blatant words of infection. I didn't know if he was using the word 'infected' as a way of describing a possible 'over-the-hill' status of the beer. I just wanted to see if someone can chime that might have opened a bottle in the past 3 or so months.

I felt the same with trying to seek out a bottle but I have had good luck as of a few months ago with getting a bottle of BA Everett simply by asking. I recall over HF's Facebook page that a few comments were made as to the possibility of Earl coming back sometime soon. Can anyone else chime in as to the possible status of another fresh batch or an older batch that might be in barrels currently?

I see one review out of 22 on here (Jeffo) that talks about an infected bottle, and 0 out of 55 on the other site. I think you are pretty safely looking at an oddball exception, not a mass infection.

I opened my last bottle of BA Earl about 2 months ago. Not normally a beer I would age, but I kept one around out of curiosity. Perhaps not as vibrant as when fresh, but it was still tasting very good. Coffee, roast, well integrated barrel, etc. No off flavors that I could detect. I consumed about 6 or so of these bottles over the last 1.5 years, and all were perfect. I agree that the one review that mentions infection is likely an oddball exception.

If you land one let me know what it took as I too would be interested in trading for one
